Box Score New York, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team opened the season today with an 80-58 win over John Jay College on the road. The Lady Roadrunners were led by
Alie Wickersheim and
Bridget Cahill. Ramapo opens the year at 1-0 while John Jay records their first loss at 0-1.
Wickersheim and Cahill each collected 21 points while
Jessica Repasy added 17 points to the victory.
Stacey Porzl led the team with five assists and Wickersheim led in rebounds with nine. Repasy added eight rebounds and Porzl and
Abbegail Whildin each grabbed two steals.
The Roadrunners shot 30-64 (47%) from the field including 12-16 (75%) from the free throw line. John Jay shot 20-55 (36%) from the field and 13-19 (68%) from the charity stripe.
To start the game the two teams traded baskets until a run by Ramapo put the Roadrunners on top, 21-14 with a jumper from Wickersheim with 0:58 to play in the quarter. The Bloodhounds closed out the quarter on a mini-run to close the gap but it wasn't enough as the buzzer sounded with Ramapo on top, 23-19. In the second, Ramapo would take control on offense and work to a 15-point lead, 40-25 with two good free throws from
Sarah Minchin. The Roadrunners would lead 44-34 at the half and pace the game in the 3
rd and 4
th to earn the season opening non-conference win, 80-58.
All'aha Albright led John Jay with 19 points and Nyasha Howard scored 13.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, November 13
th when they travel to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for a non-conference match-up.
