Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today in NJAC action, 56-42. The Profs move to 14-8 overall, 10-5 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 7-15 overall and 2-13 in the league.
Rowan started the first quarter on a 6-0 run before they extended their lead to 17-4 with less than three minutes on the clock. Ramapo closed out the first by scoring four points while Rowan added a basket to take a 19-8 lead into the second quarter. Ramapo shrunk the lead twice in the first 4:30 of the second quarter the second time on a mini 4-0 run by
Denay Jones. Jones sank a pair of free throws and a layup to give Ramapo 14 points while Rowan countered with a 6-0 run to take a 28-14 lead with 4:06 on the clock. Rowan would take a 34-22 lead at halftime. The Profs held a double-digit lead through the third quarter while Rowan held their biggest lead in the fourth with 6:42 on the clock with a jumper from Lily Bross, 50-31. Ramapo would go on a 7-0 run started by a basket from
Emma Cartwright while it was capped off with a three-pointer from
Lauren Flatt, 38-50. Rowan would close out the game on a 6-4 run as the Profs took home the victory.
Rowan's Jes Mastriano posted 16 points while she added nine rebounds and two assists. Christina Sikaras added 13 points including three made baskets from the three-point line. The Profs tallied 32 points in the paint and 21 points off Ramapo turnovers. The team shot 39% (22-56) from the field, 30% (4-13) from the three-point line and 72% (8-11) from the free throw line.
Vanessa Kohler led the way for Ramapo with 10 points while she added four rebounds and two steals. Jones led the way with 11 rebounds while she added eight points, three assists, three steals and two blocks.
Jayda Sharp contributed with eight points, three rebounds and one block. The Roadrunners shot 32% (16-49) from the field, 40% (2-5) from the three-point line and 80% (8-10) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11th when they host Rutgers-Newark at the Bradley Center at 5:30 PM.
