WCONN GETS PAST RAMAPO, 13-6

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 6-13 decision today to the Colonials of Western Connecticut, in a non-conference match-up in Mahwah.  Ramapo falls to 3-4 overall with the loss, while the Colonials improve to 4-5.
 
The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Elena Gayton, Kelsey Heaton, and Hyla Costello, before rookie Monica Torres got the Roadrunners on the board with 18:18 left to play, to close the gap to 1-3.  Kirtsen Hudock put WConn up, 4-1, and Teresa Gustafson closed the gap to 2-4 with a Ramapo goal with 14:40 on the clock.  The goal was assisted by Itati Aburto.  Gayton scored back-to-back goals for the Colonials to grab a 6-2 lead, before Destinee Carey collected back-to-back goals of her own, to jump ahead 8-2 with 1:11 to play in the half.  T. Gustafson hit the back of the net with 23 seconds to go in the half, heading into the intermission behind the Colonials, 3-8. 
 
Western Connecticut out shot the Roadrunners 27-10 in the half, while Reagan Vier made 15 saves in net for the Roadrunners. 
 
Ramapo got on the board first in the second half of play as Winter Tanis scored an unassisted goal, just under five minutes in.  Hudcock and Carey each struck again, before Carley Altemose grabbed her first goal of the game, to put her team ahead, 11-4.  Carey and Hudock rounded out the scoring for the Colonials and Torres and Michelle Gustafson each netted a goal for Ramapo, closing out the game with Western Connecticut on top, 13-6.
 
The Colonials again out shot Ramapo, 20-13, while Vier made nine additional saves.  Karli Portnoy made ten saves in net for the Colonials in the complete game, earning the win to improve to 4-5 overall on the year.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 10th, when they travel to Drew University for a 6pm match-up.
