HUGHES NETS 100TH CAREER GOAL IN 11-5 WIN

Box Score Hillburn, NY:  Sophomore Lindsay Hughes led the Ramapo College women's lacrosse team this morning in an, 11-5 win over Old Westbury at Torne Sports Complex.

Hughes scored the first three goals for the Roadrunners (1-0) to open up the 2014 season, 3-0. Rookie Charlotte Councell hit the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, 4-0, (18:22), before Old Westbury (0-1) scored three straight goals to come within one, 3-4. Meaghan Haber, Nicole Giambrone and Courtney Gallagher all scored for the Panthers. Hughes then scored her fourth goal of the half with just under four minutes to play, to take a 5-3 lead. Rookie Katie Duca scored her first collegiate goal with 2:21 on the clock before rookie Monica Torres hit the back of the net off a pass from Hughes for her first collegiate goal. Ramapo went into halftime leading 7-3.

Hughes once again led the team in the second half, scoring three goals. Her seventh goal of the day, came with just 15 seconds left in the game and was also her 100th career goal, the second player in Ramapo Women's Lacrosse program history to do so. Torres scored her second goal of the day in the half with just under 14 minutes remaining. The Panthers scored two goals in the half, one by Sara Bey and one from Gallagher, as Ramapo pulled away for an, 11-5 victory.

For the Panthers, Jackie Cartagena posted eight saves in the game while junior captain Reagan Vier posted 13 saves for the Roadrunners in the win. Ramapo held a slight advantage in draw controls in the game, 11-7 while they posted 30 shots to the Panthers 22.

Ramapo returns to action on the road on March 8th when they travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The game is to be played at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, NY at 5:00pm.
