LIONS TAKE DOWN RAMAPO, 57-33

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team dropped a tough New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up to the Lions of the College of New Jersey, 57-33, today at the Bradley Center.  With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in the conference.  The Lions advance to 14-6 overall, 10-3 in the NJAC.

Behind 13 points from Kylie O'Donnell, the Lions cruised past the Roadrunners in a NJAC rivalry match-up in Mahwah.  The Lions controlled much of the 40-minute game, and combined shooting 20-52 (39%).  Tiffany DeTulio collected ten points and Kely Coughlin added nine, while O'Donnell pulled down a team high eight boards.  DeTulio dished out four assists.

The Roadrunners were held to just three field goals in the opening half of the game as the Lions sank, 10-27 (37%), including five three-point goals. The Lions opened the game on a 13-0 run and never looked back as they controlled the offensive side of the court, taking a 13-point halftime lead, 26-13.  The Roadrunners finally got on the board with 12:30 on the clock, when Bintou Berete sank a jump shot and completed the and-one play with a good free throw, to close the gap to a ten-point spread, 3-13, with 12:29 to play.  The Lions would work their way to a 14-point lead, their biggest of the half, at 10:21, with a jumper from Colleen Duffy.  Ramapo would come within eight, 11-19, seven minutes later as Kelly Haspel capitalized on two awarded free throws.  The Lions controlled the remaining minutes earning the 26-13 lead at the halftime buzzer.   O'Donnell tallied a team leading eight points for the Lions and DeTulio contributed five, while O'Donnell pulled down five rebounds.  TCNJ forced seven Ramapo turnovers and grabbed three steals, while the Roadrunners combined for six steals, forcing ten Lion turnovers.

TCNJ took control once again at the start of the second half, opening the period on an 8-2 run to jump ahead, 34-15 with 15:19 on the clock.  Ramapo would come within 13, 21-34, at 14:03 with a layup from Jerkovich, before the Lions connected 12 points to gain their biggest lead of the game so far, (25), with a two-point goal from Kelly Roddy.  The remainder of the game went much of the same as the Lions sealed the NJAC victory, 57-33.  TCNJ's biggest lead was with 4:04 left in the game, when Coughlin drained a three-point basket to go up, 56-29.  Liz West led the Lions in the second half with six points as the team shot a combined 10-25 (40%) from the field, including an additional four three-point goals.  Jackie Jerkovich led the Roadrunners with six points.

Jerkovich finished the game with seven points and Micaela Moore and Berete each added six.  The Roadrunners hit 8-55 (15%) in the loss. 

Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 5th when they travel to NJAC rival, Montclair State at 6pm.
