Box Score Mahwah, NJ: Ramapo College played host to the Ospreys of Richard Stockton today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up at the Bradley Center. Behind 19 points from
Anna Fucci, the Roadrunners posted their 8th win of the year, 74-63, to improve to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the conference. The Ospreys fall to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Fucci shot 6-7 in the game, including 5-6 from the three-point arc, while nailing down a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe.
Kelly Haspel finished the game with 12 points hitting 3-9 from the field, 2-3 from the arc, and 4-4 from the free throw line. Senior
Micaela Moore finished the day with a double-double including 11 points and ten rebounds. Ramapo combined hitting 22-52 (42%) in the win. They caused 25 Stockton turnovers on the day.
Sara Farrell led the Ospreys with 18 points and Alex Nardoza added 11, as the team shot a combined 26-61 (43%). Lauren Alwan pulled down a team high 11 boards and grabbed three steals in the loss.
The Lady Roadrunners jumped out to a 40-27 halftime lead behind 16 points from Fucci. She shot a perfect 5-5 from the field, including 4-4 from behind the three-point arc, and 2-2 from the charity stripe. The team combined hitting 11-27 (41%). After the game's fourth tie, 14-14, with 12:51 on the clock, the Ospreys connected a 6-1 run to take a 20-15 lead over the Roadrunners with just under 11 minutes to play. The Roadrunners answered back with a 7-2 run of their own to tie the game for the fifth tie, this time at 22-22 with 7:21 to play. Kerri Kosakowski sparked the run and
Alayna Donadio capped it off with two good free throws. Just under one minute later, two free throws from Haspel sparked an 18-2 run to push Ramapo ahead 40-24, with a three-point goal from Fucci, and just 13 seconds to play. Stockton ran the length of the court and Jennifer Galamb answered with a three-point basket of her own to head into the locker room 13 points behind Ramapo, 27-40. All Ospreys were held to single digit points with Francesca Gervato and Alwan each leading the way with six. The Ospreys matched Ramapo's shooting performance hitting 11-27 (41%). Ramapo caused 17 Stockton turnovers in the half and gave away just six.
In the second half of play, the Ospreys spent the first four-plus minutes of the half closing the gap to ten points, after Farrell sunk a two-point goal with 15:40 on the clock. Ramapo responded with a 6-0 run, sparked by Jackie Jerkovick, and capped by Haspel, to spread their lead to 16, 51-35 with 13:29 to play. With 10:09 on the clock, Farrell collected another two points to again bring the Ospreys within ten, 44-54. The two teams traded baskets over the next minute, before a free throw from
Tierney Henderson sparked a another 6-0 Ramapo run, to put the Roadrunners ahead, 63-47 with 7:36 on the clock. Back-to-back threes from Taylor Christina and Farrell again put Stockton within ten, 53-63, and the Ospreys cracked the ten-point margin at 3:36 with a basket from Nardoza (59-67). The closest the Ospreys would come down the stretch is seven points (62-69), when Galamb hit a jump shot with 1:51 to play. Ramapo out scored the Ospreys, 5-1 in the remainder of the game earning the 74-63 NJAC win. The Roadrunners shot a combined 11-25 (44%) in the final half, behind nine points from Moore, while Stockton hit 15-34 (44%). Farrell led the way for Stockton with 16 points in the half.
The Roadrunners return to action on Monday, January 20th when they travel to St. Elizabeth for a 7pm tip. Stockton will take on NJAC rival Kean University on Wednesday, January 22 at 6pm in Pomona.
