RAMAPO CRUISES PAST PURCHASE, 18-6

Mahwah, NJ:  Behind eight goals from rookie Lindsay Hughes, the Ramapo College women's lacrosse team posted an 18-6 victory today over the Panthers of Purchase College in a Skyline Conference match-up.  With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 4-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference.  Purchase falls to 0-9 overall, 0-8 Skyline.

The Panthers got on the board first just 16 seconds into the game, before Hughes, 43 seconds into the game, scored her first of eight goals in the first half to even the score at 1-1.  Amanda Ferry gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead and Hughes put Ramapo ahead, 3-1, before Cat Vicardi closed the gap with 26:59 to play, 2-3.  Hughes collected back-to-back goals at 3:14 and 7:10 before Teresa Gustafson capitalized on a free position shot to give the Roadrunners a 6-2 advantage with 21 minutes on the clock.  Samantha Rich scored a pair of goals for Purchase, split by a goal from Hughes, before Hughes again posted back-to-back goals for the Roadrunners for a 9-4 Ramapo lead.  Ferry, Briana Vitulano, and Hughes closed out the first half scoring for the Roadrunners for a 12-4 lead heading into the intermission. 

Ramapo held a slight 17-16 edge in shots in the half, while Reagan Vier collected eight saves for the Roadrunners.  Jess Lindsay recorded three saves for the Panthers in the first 30 minutes of play. 

Despite an early goal from Rich at the start of the second half to close the gap, 5-12, the Roadrunners were able to scatter six additional goals across the final 30 minutes of play earning the 18-6 victory.  The Panthers were held to just two goals in the final half as Vier collected an additional five saves.  Michelle Gustafson posted two Ramapo goals and Teresa Gustafson added two of her own, while Alison Gall and Ferry each chipped in one for the Roadrunners. 

Vier finished the game with 13 saves and Lindsay posted 12, as Ramapo again out shot the Panthers in the final half, 20-10, for a game total, 37-26.

Hughes finished the day with a team high eight goals, 15 draw controls, and four ground balls.

The Roadrunners will take on SUNY New Paltz at home on Thursday, April 11th, at 4pm.
