Box Score 2 Randall's Island, NY: The Ramapo College softball team split a non-conference double header today on the road against Hunter College. The Roadrunners won game one, 9-0 in five innings while they fell in game two, 7-8 in eight innings. Ramapo now stands at 18-16 overall while the Hawks are now 12-26 overall.
In game one, Ramapo scored three runs in the top of the first inning when
Kim LaPenta scored on an infield error, she walked earlier in the inning.
Janet Brown drove home
Caitlin Smith with a hard hit single to right field, 2-0, before
Mikayla Melendez drove home Brown with an RBI single of her own for a 3-0 lead. In the third inning, Ramapo added four runs to take a 7-0 lead, highlighted by Smith's double which brought home three runs. The Roadrunners added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, extending their lead to, 9-0.
Harley Masiello fired a complete game for the Roadrunners. She struck out eight and walked none in five innings of work while only surrendering two hits.
In game two, Ramapo scored three runs with two outs in the top of the first inning.
Erin Witherspoon was hit by a pitch and stole second before
Melanie Walling drove her home with an RBI single to center field.
Kristen Wilson reached base on an infield error as Walling came around to score before Melendez later scored before Wilson was called out at second caught stealing.
Ramapo added one run in the fifth when
Hannah Mucerino blasted her first home run of her career over the center field fence to take a 4-0 lead before they added two runs in the sixth, extending their lead to 6-0.
Hunter would come back and score six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by a grand slam to tie the game 6-6.
In the top of the eighth,
Danielle Saporito was placed on second base before pinch hitter
Caitlin Smith ripped a double to center field allowing the Roadrunners to take a 7-6 lead. The Hawks would score two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game, 8-7.
Masiello took the loss for the Roadrunners, falling to 9-9 overall. Starting pitcher
Danielle Isenberg worked 6.1 innings, surrendering seven hits while striking out four and giving up no runs.
Halle Pineiro worked 0.2 innings in relief, as she scattered four hits and gave up six runs while striking out one.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they host NJAC rival Kean University in the final NJAC doubleheader of the season at 1pm. The Roadrunners will honor their senior class in a pre-game ceremony.
