RAMAPO COMES FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT CMSV

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team came from down 5-8, to defeat the Dolphins from the College of Mt. St. Vincent, 10-8 today in a Skyline Conference match-up.  The Roadrunners put their first win of the season in the books, improving to 1-5 overall, and 1-2 in the conference.  Mt. St. Vincent falls to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Rookie Lauren Schmidt sparked Ramapo's 5-0 run to close out the game, and fellow rookie Lindsay Hughes capped off the run, scoring the game winner and insurance goal, leading the Roadrunners to the two-goal conference victory. 

Nicole Flores opened the scoring 5:29 into the game to give the Dolphins a 1-0 advantage, before Schmidt knotted the score at one goal apiece, with her own goal just over one minute and thirty seconds later.  Hughes gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead, before Katie Coyle, off a dish from Flores, tied the game at 2-2 with just over 15 minutes to play in the half.  Flores put CMSV up 3-2 at 21:05, before a free position shot from Samantha Ramsden, gave the Dolphins a 4-2 edge at 23:36.  Hughes scored her second goal of the game 20 seconds later and Sarah Colletti and Laura Carr each posted a goal of their own for CMSV, to close out the half with a 6-3 lead over the Roadrunners.

Reagan Vier would grab seven first half saves and Kacie McCormack grabbed five for the Dolphins, as the Dolphins held a 15-9 advantage in shots in the first 30 minutes of play.

At the start of the second half, Hughes dished a ball to Teresa Gustafson, before striking again on her own, to close the gap 5-6 at the 8:41 minute mark.  It was Ramsden and Carr who each recorded the Dolphins final goals of the game, taking an 8-5 lead over Ramapo with 17:24 to play.  Schmidt's run-sparking goal came at 19:58, pushing Ramapo within two goals, 6-8.  Taylor Jade Nicholas took a dish from Hughes to get Ramapo within one at 20:13, and Lacey Gruendling followed with the game tying goal at 23:42.  Hughes collected the game winner at 23:47 and the insurance goal at 27:36, to earn the 10-8 come-from-behind victory in Mahwah.

Vier collected an additional four saves in the second half and McCormack recorded three for the Dolphins.  The two teams had an even 11 shots each in the final half of play.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, March 27th, when they travel to St. Joseph's College for a 7pm match-up.
