Box Score Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team collected a 48-43 victory tonight over the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at the Bradley Center. With the five-point victory, the Roadrunners get their second win in the conference to advance to 2-1, while improving to .500 on the year at 4-4 overall. With the loss, Rutgers Camden falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Ramapo controlled most of the game and spread their lead to as many as 15 over the course of the 40 minute game, but a late second half run from Rutgers Camden threatened the Roadrunners, as the Scarlet Raptors came within just one point with one and a half minutes to go. But with a 5-1 run to close the game, the 48-43 victory would lean towards Ramapo, giving the Roadrunners their second NJAC victory of the season.
Micaela Moore finished the game with a team leading 15 points and
Anna Fucci collected 13, as the team shot a combined 18-57 (32%) from the field. Moore and
Alayna Donadio each pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Fucci dished out four assists. Rutgers Camden was led by Alex Gravinese, who posted nine points shooting 3-8 from the field, all three-point baskets. Michelle Onu collected eight points and pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds. The team hit a combined 15-57 (26%) from the floor. Rutgers Camden held a 51-39 advantage in rebounds over Ramapo on the night.
The first 11-plus minutes of the second half was heavy in Ramapo's favor, but after a three-point goal from
Kelly Haspel to put Ramapo up 41-27, with 8:13 on the clock, the Scarlet Raptors responded with a 12-0 run to come within two, 39-41, with a layup from Onu with 3:43 to go. The run was sparked by Krystle Cook who nailed a jump shot off an assist from Burch with 7:06 to play. Moore broke Rutgers Camden's offensive spark with 1:49 to play, when she netted a two-point goal after grabbing her own rebound. Gravinese closed the gap to just one point, 42-43 with a deep three-point goal, but Donadio responded with a two-point goal to put the Roadrunners up, three, 45-42, with just over one minute to play. A free throw from Onu with 55 seconds to play would be the final point for the Scarlet Raptors, as Ramapo's Moore and Haspel each collected points in the final seconds of the game to lead their team to the 48-43 victory in Mahwah. Moore led Ramapo with six points and Fucci chipped in five. The team hit 9-28 (32%) from the field. Rutgers Camden went 11-28 (39%) as a team, and Gravinese led the way with nine points.
The Roadrunners opened the game on a 10-0 run behind eight points from Fucci, who drained two three-point goals in the first 3:54 of the game. Rutgers Camden finally got on the scoreboard at 15:59 with a jump shot from Cook. Monica Burch hit two free throws to bring the Scarlet Raptors within six, but a mini 6-0 Ramapo run, put the Roadrunners up, 16-4, with just over 11 minutes to play in the half. Ramapo would spread their lead to 15 on three separate occasions over the remainder of the period as the team head into the locker room at halftime with a 14-point advantage, 27-13. Moore capitalized on an and-one play at 9:10 to go up 21-5, and
Bintou Berete sunk a jump shot to take a 23-8 lead just one minute later. With just 1:44 to go in the half, Berete hit two free throws to again put Ramapo up by 15, this time, 27-12. Moore led Ramapo with nine first half points hitting 3-8 from the field, while Fucci sunk eight and Berete six. The team combined hitting 9-29 (31%), ahead of the Scarlet Raptors', 4-29 (14%). Burch, Falecia Galindez, and Michelle Onu each contributed three points for Rutgers Camden in the first 20 minutes of play. Onu pulled down a team-high seven boards as rebounds came out equal at 24 for each team.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, December 7th, when they host NJAC rival Montclair State University at 1pm at the Bradley Center on the Mahwah campus.
