Box Score Mahwah, NJ: Behind a double-double from David Langan, Wesley College defeated the Ramapo College men's basketball team 67-76 to improve to 7-1 overall on the year. The Roadrunners, with the non-conference loss, fall to 4-5 overall.
Langan shot 6-9 from the field and 7-8 from behind the charity stripe, collecting a team leading 19 points on the day. Langan pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds for the double-double, as his team shot a combined 26-52 (50%) in the win. Brandin Youngblood chipped in 17 points hitting 5-11 from the field, all three-point goals, and Quincy Pettiford and Wayne Lennon contributed 11 and ten points respectively. Lennon added ten rebounds for a double-double of his own on the day.
For the Roadrunners,
George Sapp led the team with 16 points and
Terry Hicks collected 15, as the team went 25-66 (38%) from the field.
Jermaine Emanuel netted 11 points and
Frank Nock dished out a team leading four assists.
Ramapo opened the game with 3-0 lead, but it was short lived as the Wolverines took complete control, earning an 18-point lead with 8:31 on the clock, with a three-point goal from Jason Forges. The Roadrunners responded with an 8-0 run to come within ten, 19-29, with five and a half to go in the period, and worked their way to within just six points at 2:40, with a layup from Nock. Wesley's Youndblood would sink a three-pointer and Sapp would grab a two-point basket, to end the first half of play with Wesley on top, 34-27. Youngblood sank 12 points in the first half and the team went 12-25 (48%), ahead of Ramapo's 11-33 (33%). Sapp led the Roadrunners with 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Roadrunners spent the first ten minutes of the second half, slowly chipping away on Wesley's lead, holding the Wolverines to just three points, while sinking six, to close the gap to 49-52 at 10:32. The Wolverines would work back to an eight-point lead with 8:31 to play, but Ramapo's Sapp would sink a two-point basket at 8:10 to spark a mini-Ramapo run, putting the Roadrunners again within three, 57-60 with 6:42 on the clock. Wesley spent the next five minutes regaining a double-digit lead, their biggest lead down the stretch coming at 1:18 when Pettiford sank two free throws to go up, 73-60. Wesley proved to be too much for the Roadrunners in the final minute of the game, falling short, 67-76 in Mahwah. Langan sank 11 points in the final half and Pettiford chipped in nine, as the team shot 14-27 (52%) from the floor. Hicks collected 13 points to lead Ramapo in the final half. The Roadrunners went 14-33 (42%) as a team.
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to the Las Vegas for a non-conference match-up with Bridgewater State at 8:00 PM on December 27th.
