BARLOW LEADS RAMAPO OVER RUTGERS-NEWARK, 64-53

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team earns a 64-53 win over visiting Rutgers-Newark University. The Roadrunners move to 6-17 overall and 5-11 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders now stand at 4-18 overall and 1-14 in the league.

With just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half the Roadrunners saw themselves down by one before they responded with a 19-5 run. Elijah Barlow tallied 13 points during the run while Nahum Lewis added four and Tyrell Murchison posted two. Ramapo led 28-15 with less than six minutes remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets over the next four minutes before Lewis scored the final points of the first half, a three-pointer, as they led 35-21.

Murchison drained a three-pointer to start the second half before the Scarlet Raiders shrunk the Ramapo lead to just eight with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Ramapo responded with a mini 6-0 run started by Hutchinson as it was capped off with a free throw from Orion Mickens, 58-44. Another 6-0 run from Rutgers-Newark shrunk the lead back to eight with 4:23 on the clock before Ramapo once again responded. Mickens made a jumper before Lewis sank a pair of free throws and the final basket of the night, a layup with 23 seconds remaining as Ramapo posted the 11-point win.

Barlow led the way with 24 points as he finished 10-18 from the field which included two made three-pointers. Murchison added nine points and a team high five steals while Lewis added 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Mickens led the way with 11 rebounds while he added a team high two blocks. Ramapo scored 24 points in the paint and 24 points off Rutgers-Newark turnovers. The team shot 47% (26-55) from the field, 50% (7-14) from the three-point line and 55% (5-9) from the free throw line.

For the Scarlet Raiders, Raheem Murry led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds while Ayden Brown added 14 points, three rebounds and three assists. The team shot 38% (19-49) from the field, 33% (6-18) from the three-point line and 81% (9-11) from the free throw line.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 14th when they travel to Stockton University for a NJAC game scheduled for 3:00 PM.
