MOORE GETS DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN NJAC WIN

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team posted a 43-41 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory today over the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, to open conference season at 1-0.  Ramapo improves to .500 at 2-2 overall, while NJCU falls to 0-1 in the conference and 1-2 overall. 

It came down to the wire as a three pointer from NJCU's Ashley Vasquez with 17 seconds to play (41-43), and a last second shot from Jade Medley at the buzzer, put the game in jeopardy for Ramapo, but a deflection off the rim sealed the deal for the Roadrunners.  Micaela Moore recorded a team leading double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds as the team shot a combined 15-44 (34%) in their second win of the season.  Ashley Vazquez recorded 15 points for NJCU, and Kiana Briggs collected 11, while Bria Smith pulled down a team high 11 rebounds.  NJCU went 13-57 (23%) in the game.

Ramapo got on the board first in the second half with a basket from Tierney Henderson, before the Gothic Knights strung together an 11-3 run to take the lead, 31-30, with a three-point basket from Medley, with 11:23 on the clock.  The Roadrunners quickly responded with an 8-0 run to go up 38-31, before the two teams traded baskets over the next two minutes, putting Ramapo ahead 40-33 with 3:39 to play.  NJCU spent the remainder of the clock chipping away on Ramapo's lead, before Vasquez's good three, with 17 ticks remaining, closed the gap to just two points, 41-43.  Henderson and Kerri Kosakowski led Ramapo with five points each in the final half of play as the team went 5-19 (26%).  Vazquez led the Gothic Knights with eight points and Briggs chipped in five.  NJCU combined hitting 7-26 (27%).

After a quick basket from Ramapo and two good free throws from NJCU, the Roadrunners strung together six points to jump ahead, 8-2 with 15:22 on the clock.  Kelly Haspel sparked the run and Tierney Henderson capped it off, each with a two-point goal.  The Gothic Knights responded with a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game for the second time, after two free throws from Deseree Johnson, book ended the offensive spark.  Ramapo's Kelli Lane collected a jump shot before Vazquez drained a three-point goal to give the Gothic Knights their first lead of the game, 11-10, with just under 13 to play.  The team's lead wouldn't last as Moore responded with two points of her own to regain the advantage, which lasted the remainder of the half.  Ramapo spread their lead to as many as five, 18-13, when Doris Ilic hit a long shot at the 9:10 minute mark.  NJCU was able to tie it up for the third time at four minutes flat, with the back-end of a two-shot foul with just over three minutes to play, but a 5-0 run, capped off with a three-point goal from Ilic at the buzzer, gave the Roadrunners a 25-20 edge heading into the locker room.  Moore collected a team leading eight points in the first half while Ilic chipped in seven.  The team went 10-25 (40%) from the field.  NJCU was led by Vazquez with seven points, as the team shot a combined 6-31 (19%).

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, November 26th when they travel to NJAC rival, Kean University, for a 6pm tip.
