ARCADIA TAKES TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT TITLE

Box Score 1 Mahwah, NJ:  The Knights of Arcadia College took home 1st place in the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament today as they defeated SUNYIT, 74-64, in non-conference women's basketball action at the Bradley Center.  With the win Arcadia improves to 2-0 overall on the year.  SUNYIT falls to 1-1.  Earlier in the day the Roadrunners defeated Old Westbury, 70-63 in the consolation match-up of the tournament.  

Arcadia jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game before spreading the gap to 13, (16-3) with a jump shot from Victoria Mazzeo, off a steal by Mary Badeen.  The Knights held a comfortable lead until the 8:30 minute mark when back-to-back baskets from SUNIT's Nijee Scott sparked a 10-0 run to come within three, 28-31.  The run was capped off with a three-point goal from Tierney McGlynn with 5:57 to go in the half.  The two teams traded baskets until just over two minutes left on the clock, when free throws from McGlynn closed the gap to just one point, 36-37.  Arcadia responded with a 10-1 run to close out the first half, heading into the locker room with a 46-38 advantage.  The run was capped off when Badeen drained a three-point goal with three ticks on the clock to close out the half. 

Abbey Hanehan would put SUNYIT within four points to open the second half, and Deasia Goodson would again close the gap to four, 64-68 with 4:07 to play, but that would be the closest they would come to the Knights.  Arcadia took their biggest lead at 8:43 with a layup from Dominique Hassinger to go up by 14, 68-54.  The Knights closed out the game with a 6-0 run to take home the ten-point victory.

Badeen finished the night with 20 points and nine rebounds while Dominique Hassinger and Samantha Caligiuri collected 14 and 13 points respectively.  The team combined hitting 29-75 (39%) from the field.  McGlynn led SUNYIT with 14 points and Goodson pulled down a team-high 12 boards.  SUNYIT went 26-66 (39%) in the loss. 

In the consolation match-up, the Ramapo College Roadrunners defeated the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury, 70-63, behind double-doubles from Kellie Lane and Micaela Moore.  Lane sank 21 points and collected 13 rebounds in the team's first win of the season (1-1), while Moore collected 17 points and ten boards.

After falling behind, 31-28 in the first half of play, Lane sank two free throws and a two-point goal to open the second half, giving Ramapo a one-point, 32-31 lead with 19:02 on the clock.  The two teams traded baskets and the lead over the next two minutes, but after a layup from Tierney Hendersen, which gave the Roadrunners a 36-35 advantage, the lead stayed with Ramapo until the final buzzer. 

Ramapo's biggest lead of nine came on three separate occasions in the final half of play, the first at 6:17, when Haspel drained a three-point goal to go up 57-48.  With 4:11 to go, a free throw from Donadio gave Ramapo another nine-point advantage, and a jump shot from Haspel put the Roadrunners up, 64-55 with 3:33 to play.  Old Westbury responded with a seven-point run to come within two, 62-64, with an and-one play from DeAndra Scott, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners pulled away to earn the seven point win in the final minutes of the game. 

Haspel finished the day with nine points and three assists, while Donadio and Hendersen each contributed seven points to the win.  The team shot acombined 21-52 (40%).  DeAndra led Old Westbury with 24 points and 12 rebounds.  Clarissa Gallagher contributed ten points and Re'auna Dorner dished out a team-high six assists.  The Panthers hit 24-67 (36%) in the loss.

The lead changed five times and the game was tied on five occasions across the first 20 minutes of play.  Old Westbury grabbed their biggest lead with seven minutes to play in the half, when a jump shot from Raven Price put the Panthers up by five, 21-16.  Ramapo finished the first half three points shy of Old Westbury (28-31), after hitting a combined 10-25 (40%) from the floor.  Lane led the Roadrunners with 11 points and Donadio chipped in five points of her own, while pulling down a team-high six boards and dishing a team-high three assists.  For Old Westbury, Gallagher and Scott each contributed ten points in the first 20 minutes of play, shooting 3-3 and 4-12 respectively.  Gallagher's three field goals all came from behind the three-point arc.  Dorner collected three assists and Scott pulled down four rebounds.  The team combined for 12 field goals on 32 attempts (38%).

In the second half, Moore led the Roadrunners with 14 points while Lane chipped in ten.  The Roadrunners combined hitting 11-27 (41%) in the half.  DeAndra led all Panthers with 14 points as the team shot 12-35 (34%).
