MOORE NAILS GAME WINNER IN 66-64 VICTORY OVER WPU

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  Junior forward Micaela Moore nailed down the game winner along with 16 points, and sophomore guard Jackie Jerkovich netted 16 of her own, as the Ramapo College women's basketball team posted a 66-64 victory tonight at the Bradley Center.  With the New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over the Pioneers of William Paterson University, the Roadrunners improve to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference.  William Paterson falls to 10-5 overall and 4-3 NJAC.

The Pioneers fought back from a five point deficit, 56-61, with just 3:30 to go in the game, but the Roadrunners proved to be too much as they defeated William Paterson, with a basket from Moore with just 32 seconds to play.  Ashley Marfo hit a two-point goal with 1:09 to play to take a 62-61 lead, before Ramapo's Faith Flannery hit a jump shot with just over a minute to play, putting Ramapo back on top, 63-62.  Marfo nailed a jumper with 37 seconds to go, before Moore's basket dropped, giving Ramapo a 65-64 edge.  The Roadrunners forced a Pioneer turnover, and after fouling Moore, who sank a free throw for a two-point lead, the buzzer sounded earning the Roadrunners the conference win.  Ramapo held the lead the entire second half until the Pioneer's one-point advantage in the final minute of play.

Moore hit 5-9 in the game, and grabbed eight rebounds, as her team hit a combined 25-49 (51%) in the win.  Jerkovich went 7-12, including two big three-pointers, while Flannery sunk 11 points and dished out eight assists on the night.

Marfo led the Pioneers shooting 10-13 for 22 points, while completing a double-double with 20 rebounds.  Kristine Jackiewicz collected 14 points and Floriana Borova added 12, in the team's fifth loss of the season.

In the first half, after a 4-4 tie to open the game, the Pioneers went on a 9-1 run to go up eight with 14:04 on the clock.  Marfo sparked the run with a jump shot at 16:02, before a free throw from Brittany Harden capping off the run, gave William Paterson a 13-5 edge.  The Roadrunners shrunk the lead to four, 11-15, but the Pioneers responded with a mini 6-0 run to extend their advantage to ten, 21-11 (9:13), on a made basket by Dana Jeter.  Over the next two plus minutes, the Roadrunners would close in on the Pioneers after Jerkovich sparked a 10-0 run with a deep three-pointer.  The run was capped off with another three from Jerkovich, tying the game at 21 with 7:26 to play in the half.  With the score tied at 24, Ramapo would go on a 7-2 run, capped off again by Jerkovich, this time with a jumper, to take a five point lead with 2:03 left in the half.  Kristine Jackiewicz sunk a three-point shot for WPU, before Moore hit two foul shots at 1:16 to take a 33-29 advantage. WPU hit a basket with two tics left in the half, a jumper by Sara Luberto, to head into the locker room trailing Ramapo, 31-33.  The Roadrunners shot a combined 12-27 (44%) in the half behind ten points from Jerkovich.  Moore contributed seven points while leading the team with six rebounds.  William Paterson sank 10-35 (28%) in the first 20 minutes of play.

This was the first time in Coach Mike Eineker's tenure, and the first time since the 2004-2005 season, the Roadrunners defeated the Pioneers.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival Richard Stockton College for a 1pm game.
