Micaela Moore tallied a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds as the Ramapo College women's basketball team powered past NJAC rival Richard Stockton College, 80-70 on the road. The Roadrunners improve to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the NAJC while the Ospreys fall to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
The Ospreys jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half (16:32) with a layup by Tiana Cannon. Moore put the Roadrunners on the board with two made foul shots just 22 seconds later (2-8, 16:10), which started an 11-2 run by Ramapo to take a one point lead, 11-10 with 14:30 to go in the half. Alex Milne capped of the run with a made jumper, assisted by Moore. The two teams traded baskets before Ramapo started to pull away in the first half with 10:30 to go as sophomore
Jackie Jerkovich nailed a three pointer to go up four, 20-16. Ramapo would go on a 16-2 run to take a 36-20 lead with 5:33 left in the half as Flannery hit a rare three point shot off a pass from sophomore
Kelly Haspel. Flannery tallied seven points in the 16 point run. Stockton cut the lead to 12, 27-39 with a three pointer from Jennifer Galamb off a dish from
Alexa Ryan with just under three minutes left in the half before Milne and Haspel hit a jumper and three point shot to extend the Ramapo lead to 17, 44-27 (2:06). Stockton would score the final four points in the half sending the Roadrunners into the locker room up 44-31.
Ramapo shot 53% (16-30) from the field in the first half and 45% (5-11) from beyond the three point line. Moore was the lone Roadrunner to shoot foul shots in the half as she was a perfect 7-7.
In the second half, Sara Farrell made one of two foul shots with 17:21 on the clock to come within ten, 36-46 before Moore hit a jumper followed by two made foul shots by
Alayna Donadio to put the Roadrunners back up 50-36. Stockton cut the lead to ten, 42-52 before a Jerkovich layup extended the Ramapo lead to 14, 56-42 (13:05). Moore completed a three point play, 59-44 with 12:24 to go in the game before the Ospreys cut the Ramapo lead to seven with 7:03 left in the game on a Alex Nardoza three pointer, 56-63. Stockton would shrink the lead to seven, two more times in the game, before Ramapo stretched there lead back to 13, 76-63 as Flannery hit both of her foul shots with just 1:29 left in the game. Kerrie Kosakowski went 4-4 from the foul line in two straight trips, putting the Roadrunners up 15, 80-65 with just under one minute to play. Che'Na Thompson scored the final basket in the game as the Roadrunners came away with the 80-70 road victory.
Moore led the way for Ramapo as she shot 9-10 from the floor and 10-10 from the foul line; she also blocked two shots and grabbed three steals. Jerkovich tallied 14 points and dished out six assists while Flannery tallied 13 points and three blocks. Milne added nine points while Kosakowski and Donadio each contributed with six points. Ramapo shot 50% (26-52) from the field and 85% (23-27) from the foul line while they forced 21 Stockton turnovers.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday when they travel to non-conference rival the College of Staten Island at 6:00pm.
