MONTCLAIR STATE DOWNS RAMAPO, 61-49

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team played host to NJAC foe, Montclair State University, tonight at the Bradley Center where they fell to the Red Hawks, 61-49.

The Roadrunners now stand at 15-10 overall and 5-7 in the NJAC and will await word of an ECAC Tournament bid to be announced on Monday afternoon. The Red Hawks improve to 18-7 overall, 9-4 in the NJAC earned a NJAC Tournament birth. They bracket will be released later tonight on njacsports.com.

The Red Hawks opened to a 7-0 lead with baskets from Jaime Ericson, Melissa Tobie, and Theresa Towns before Ramapo's Lindsey Gripenburg sunk a jump shot at 17:38 getting the Roadrunners on the board.  Montclair jumped ahead by double digits (13-3) just over two minutes later with a basket from Ericson and with eight Ramapo turnovers over the next nine minutes, the Red Hawks spread their lead to 13, 23-10, with a two point goal from Sara Farrell off the steal by Tobie.  In the final six minutes of the half, Montclair continued to hold their lead heading into the intermission with a 32-22edge over the Roadrunners.  The team shot 14-32 (44%) in the half with Ericson and Towns each netting a team leading 11 points.  Jenny Malone grabbed five steals and Tobie pulled down six rebounds.  All Roadrunners were held to single digits with Alexa Ryan leading the way with nine points.  Ramapo shot a combined 7-18 (39%) from the floor.  Montclair out rebounded Ramapo, 19-13.

Ramapo would go on a 10-0 run to open the half as Alex Milne scored the first basket for the Roadrunners while Micaela Moore capped off the run with two made free throws to come within two, 32-30 with 16:02 on the clock. Ramapo would tie the game on Alayna
Donadio's made foul shots before taking their first lead of the game, 37-34 (12:33) on a made jumper by Ryan. Montclair would regain the lead, 38-37 before they went on a 9-2 run to take a 47-40 lead that they would never give up. MSU's biggest lead in the second half would come with 7:11 left in the game as they led by 14, 56-42. Faith Flannery hit a jumper that started a 6-2 run that was capped off by Milne's made foul shots to come within nine, 57-48 with 4:19 left in the game. MSU was able to hold off the Roadrunners, 61-49. Montclair earns the #2 seed in the North and will await the play-in game against Richard Stockton and Rowan University to be played on February 16.

Towns led the Red Hawks with 21 points while Ericson added 14 of her own and Tobie posted 13 points and seven rebounds. The Red Hawks shot 38% in the game as they went 24-63 from the floor.

Ramapo was led by Ryan with 13 points while Moore added eight points and seven rebounds. Flannery added six points, two assists and three rebounds while Milne added seven points, three rebounds and two steals.  The Roadrunners honored their three seniors prior to the game. The Roadrunners await news on an ECAC Tournament appearance, first round February 29th.
