Box Score Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated host Rowan University today, 71-65 for the first time since 2003.The Roadrunners improve to 10-3, 2-2 while the Profs fall to 5-8, 1-3.
The Roadrunners were up by as many as nine, 23-14 with ten minutes to go in the game before they took an 11 point lead, 30-19 on a layup by
Alexa Ryan with 4:35 on the clock. The Profs went on a 8-3 run as Alissa Lamey hit a three pointer to cut the lead to three, 33-30 with 2:47 to go in the half before the Profs sunk two foul shots with under a minute to play as Ramapo was up 33-32 heading into the locker room.
In the second half, the Profs went up by two with a made three pointer by Lamey before Ramapo went on a 8-2 run to take a four point lead, 43-39 (14:12) on a made basket by Michaela Moore. The Profs tied the game for the sixth time, before taking a four point lead on a jumper at 11:10. The Roadrunner would go on another 9-2 run started by
Brittany Howes' three point play as she hit a layup and foul shot while
Alex Milne's jumper put the Roadrunners up four, 55-51 (8:30). The game was tied for the eighth time in the game at 57 all before
Jackie Jerkovich nailed back to back three pointers and Milne hit a jumper to take a six point lead with 3:09 left on the clock. Lauren Gregg knocked down to shots for the Profs before they made two crucial foul shots to tie the game at 65. Ramapo's
Faith Flannery came up big with a drive to the basket to take the two point lead, 67-65 with thirty tics left in the game. Ryan sealed the win as she nailed two foul shots with just eleven seconds remaining, 69-65. After
Lindsey Gripenburg stole the ball the Profs were forced to foul sending her to the foul line, making both for the 71-65 score.
Jerkovcich led the Roadrunners with 14 points as she was 4-7 from behind the three point line while Ryan posted 11 points, three assists and she went 4-4 from the charity stripe. Moore and
Kelly Haspel each contributed ten points while Flannery added eight points going 3-5 from the field and 2-2 from the foul line. Ramapo shot 43% (25-58) from the field and 65% (13-20) from the foul line.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday when they travel to FDU-Florham at 6:00 pm for a non-conference match-up.
