RAMAPO TAKES TWO FROM RUTGERS-CAMDEN, 9-5 AND 8-7 IN TEN INNINGS

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a NJAC doubleheader against visiting Rutgers-Camden University today at Jeff Maund field, 9-5 and 8-7 in ten innings. The Roadrunners improve to 28-7 and 10-5 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 11-23 and 1-15 in the conference.

In game one, Ramapo took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs Christian Spurr walked before Dan Moreno was hit by a pitch to put runner's at first and second. Matt Hancock ripped a single up the middle to plate Spurr before Nicholas DiGirolamo singled past the short stop allowing Moreno to take the 2-0 lead.

Rutgers-Camden came back with three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead with a three-run triple. Ramapo scored two runs in the third inning, Hancock tripled to center field allowing Spurr to score, he walked earlier in the inning before DiGirolamo singled to the pitcher plating Hancock to take a 4-3 lead. They added one run in the fourth inning when Rob Dimperio picked up a RBI single to left field as Pat Driscoll scored, 5-3.

The Scarlet Raptors tied the game in the fifth inning, 5-5 before Ramapo scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, Spurr singled up the middle before Moreno ripped a double to center field to pick up the RBI, 6-5. The Roadrunners added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 9-5 highlighted by Spurr's double to left field.

Tim Hannes picked up the win for Ramapo, improving to 2-0. He came on in the sixth inning in relief while scattering three hits. PJ Cerreto started the game for Ramapo, he worked the first five innings, striking out four while surrendering five runs, two earned.

Six Roadrunners recorded multi-hit games with Hancock and DiGirolamo collecting three hits a piece and three RBI.

In game two, Ramapo came back in the tenth inning with the winning run to take the game 8-7. Somma drew a lead off walk before Driscoll put down a sac bunt to move pinch runner John Capuano to second. Dimperio ripped a 1-2 pitch to centerfield to plate the winning run.

Rutgers-Camden scored two in the first inning when CJ Mooney recorded a RBI on a ground out to short as Joe Merlino scored from thirdbase, he reached on a lead off single earlier in the inning. George Spingler then drove in Tom Clarke on a single to center field, 2-0.

The Roadrunners picked one up in the second when Joe Somma knocked Moreno in with an RBI sacrifice fly to right field. Moreno walked to lead off the inning.

Rutgers-Camden added one run in the fourth, 3-1. The Roadrunners answered back in the fifth when they added one run. DiGirolamo hit a double up the middle advancing Driscoll to third base, allowing him to come home on a throwing error by the third baseman, to come within one run, 3-2. Ramapo tied the game in the sixth, 3-3 before the Scarlet Raptors added three runs on two hits and one in Ramapo error to take at 6-3 lead, in the seventh inning. Ramapo got one back in the bottom half of the inning, 6-4 before they scored three runs in the eighth inning to take a 7-6 lead. Knox led off the inning with a triple to right field. Following one out Joseph Somma lofted a RBI sac fly to left field before Dimperio knocked in Driscoll who reached on a double down the right field line earlier in the inning. Spurr then recorded an infield single to shortstop, plating DiGirolamo.

The Scarlet Raptors came back to tie the game in the bottom of the top of the ninth inning on a RBI single before Ramapo won the game in the bottom of the tenth.

Matt Jenisch picked up the win in relief, as he improved to 3-2 on the year.
