Gettysburg, PA: The Ramapo College baseball team swept a key non-conference doubleheader on the road at Gettysburg College this afternoon in dramatic fashion. The Roadrunners won game one, 7-1 and came back down three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game and win game two in 12 innings, 8-3. The Roadrunners improve to 29-12 overall while the Bullets move to 26-15 overall.
Game #1: Ramapo 7, Gettysburg 1
John Hacker (7-1 overall) fired a complete game with four strikeouts and no walks to earn the win in game one for the Roadrunners. He scattered seven hits and surrendered one run. Ramapo got on the board in the second inning when
Julian Schultz advanced to third on a hit from
Jack Tallent and later scored on a throwing error by the Bullets, 1-0. In the third,
Zach Novakowski belted his team leading seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot over the right field fence.
Braden Schappert scored on the home run to push the score, 3-0. Gettysburg scored one in the fourth before Ramapo added three in the sixth inning. Tallent plated
Nick Pellegrino with an RBI single before
Zach Barbash laced a double to left field which allowed Tallent to come around and score, 5-1.
Brandon Tauber drove a single through the left side of the infield which plated Barbash for the 6-1 lead. In the seventh,
Nick Pellegrino connected on his X home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence to extend the lead, 7-1.
Schappert and Tallent each collected two hits in the game while Novakowski led the way with two RBI.
Game 2: Ramapo 8, Gettysburg 3
In the top of the ninth inning, Ramapo saw themselves down 3-0 to Gettysburg. The Roadrunners were down to their last out with runners on the corners before Novakowski tied the game with a huge three-run home run, his eighth of the season.
Kevin Penny, who came into the game in the fifth in relief of Ramapo starting pitcher
James Kahn, would hold the Bullets to just one hit and did not let up a run over the final eight innings while he struck out six and walked three. Ramapo would take the lead in the top of the 12th inning as they scored five runs on six hits. Schultz and
Eric Knapp reached on back-to-back singles before Tallent drove in Schultz with the go-ahead run. Tallent was down to his last strike on an 0-2 pitch before he laced a ball back up the middle allowing Schultz to score the eventual game-winning run, 4-3.
Dan Maglio put down a sac bunt to move the runners up one base before
Casey Chiola lifted a sac fly to plate Knapp, 5-3.
Julian Caruso singled before
Braden Schappert hit a double to left field gap which allowed Tallent and Caruso to come around and score, 7-3. Novakowski worked a walk before Pellegrino singled to left field to plate the final run of the inning, 8-3. Penny finished the game on the mound for the Roadrunners as he struck out the final batter of the game to seal the victory.
Ramapo posted 14 hits in game two as Novakowski and Pellegrino each tallied three hits. Penny moved to 3-1 with the win.Â
