Mahwah, NJ: The #5 seeded Rutgers-Camden University baseball team defeated #4 seeded Ramapo College 4-0 in a NJAC Tournament Quarterfinal game this afternoon at Jeff Maund Field.
The Scarlet Raptors (19-21 overall) starting pitcher Austin Wokock (7-1) fired a complete game shutout with three strikeouts to earn his seventh win of the season. Ryan Joseph drove in two RBI with a hard-hit single through the right side of the infield in the top of the first inning. In the fourth inning, Rutgers-Camden added two more runs as Gavin McCaffrey doubled to right-center field which allowed Matt McAleer to score before McCaffrey scored on Austin Dubler's RBI single, 4-0. Wokock scattered seven Roadrunner hits in the game to keep them off the board, including getting out of two late inning jams. With two outs and two runners on base for Ramapo in the sixth,
Julian Schultz belted a 3-2 pitch to the wall as McCaffrey was able to run it down at the fence for the catch and the final out of the inning. In the seventh, the Roadrunners left one runner on as Wokock got a hard-hit line-out to third base. Michael McGinley was able to catch the ball over his head off the bat of pinch-hitter
Zach Barbash for the final out of the inning. In the ninth, Schultz led off with a double before
Jack Tallent singled to put runners at the corners with just one out. Following a fly ball out to center field, Wokock induced a strikeout to end the Ramapo threat and earn the NJAC Tournament Quarterfinal win.
Michael Zalinkanskas (6-2) took the loss for the Roadrunners on the mound as he let up just one hit while walking five and striking out one.
John Hacker entered in the top of the third as he struck out ten, walked one and let up seven hits and two runs.
Nick Pellegrino and Schultz each finished 2-4 at the plate for Ramapo.
For the Scarlet Raptors, McCaffrey finished 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Jacob Watson finished 2-5 in the game. Rutgers-Camden advances to the NJAC semifinal at #2 Rowan University on Thursday afternoon.
