Jersey City, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned a key 60-41 NJAC conference win today over New Jersey City University. The Roadrunners improve to 15-8 overall, 5-6 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 5-18 overall, 0-11 in the conference.
Danielle Beam scored 16 points and grabbed a game high 15 rebounds while
Alexa Ryan tallied a team high 19 points while dishing out six assists. Beam finished 8-14 from the field while Ryan was 7-15 and 4-8 from behind the three point line.
Lindsey Gripenburg and
Micaela Moore added eight points each.
Ramapo jumped out to a four point lead (9-5) on a three point shot by Gripenburg with 14:01 to go in the first half before the Gothic Knights went up one, 9-10 with 13:28 on the clock. The two teams traded baskets before the score was tied for the fourth time in the game at 21 all (7:36). Ramapo went on a 5-0 run capped off by
Faith Flannery's made layup, 26-21 (5:35) before NJCU cut the lead to one, 26-25 (4:22), on two made foul shots by Maria Suarez. The Roadrunners used a 7-0 lead to go up eight with 1:47 to go in the first half after Gripenburg's three pointer, she was assisted by Ryan. NJCU would make the final basket of the half on a layup by Suarez, cutting the lead to six, 33-27 in favor of Ramapo.
In the second half, Ramapo used a 6-0 run to take a 37-27 lead before jumping out to a 19 point lead, 50-31, with 10:10 remaining when Beam made a layup. The Roadrunners held a 20 points lead three time during the second half, the final being with 1:58 remaining on a made layup by Ryan before Beam tallied her 16th point of night on a layup as Ryan fed her the ball with 1:31 to go taking their biggest lead of the game, 60-38. NJCU tallied the final made basket of the game, a three point shot by Nidia Carmona with 48 seconds remaining, she was assisted by Carolina Garcia.
Ramapo shot 37% from the field in the game while they made six three pointers (42%). The Gothic Knights shot 25% from the field and 50% from the foul line in the game.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, February 14th at 5:30 PM when they host NJAC rival #23/24 William Paterson University.
