RYAN LEADS RAMAPO OVER CENTENARY, 85-54

Box Score Mahwah, NJ:  Alexa Ryan led the Ramapo College women's basketball team to a 85-54 non-conference victory over Centenary College tonight at the Bradley Center.  The Roadrunners improve to 5-2 overall while the Cyclones fall to 5-2 overall.

Centenary took at five point lead, their biggest of the game with 18:22 in the first half off a mad basket by Heather Russell, 6-1, before Ramapo came back to tie the game at ten on a three point basket by Ryan, (10-10, 15:09). The two teams traded baskets before the Roadrunners tied the game for the third time in the half on a basket by Micaela Moore 16-16 (13:11).

Ramapo would then go on a 23-3 run over the next ten minutes to take at 21 point lead with 3:37 left in the half, 41-20. The Cyclones cut it to 16 twice in the final two minutes of play but the Roadrunners kept a 18-point lead going into the locker room, 45-27.

In the second half, Centenary cut the lead to 11, 49-38 on a three pointer by Andrea Innis before Lindsey Gripenburg nailed two foul shots to start at 9-0 run capped off by a Ryan three pointer at 13:24 for a 58-38 lead. Ramapo extended their lead to 77-50 on a made jumper by Ryan before Chelsea Shaw made a basket for Centenary with 4:48 to go in the game, 77-52.  Jackie Jerkovich converted on back-to-back turnovers by the Cyclones as she made both layups, the second coming with 2:54 on the clock, 81-52. The Roadrunners would hold onto the 31-point lead, 85-31 for the victory.

Ryan was 7-10 from the floor as she made four out of five three point shots and all six of her foul shots for a total of 24 points, while Gripenburg was 5-9 from the floor and 4-4 from the foul line for 14 points. Gripenburg also dished out three assists, one block and one steal. Jerkovich tallied 15 points; four rebounds and three assists while Moore, Faith Flannery and Kelly Haspel added seven points of their own. Haspel led the team with nine rebounds while Flannery and Moore each grabbed six. Ramapo out rebounded Centenary 44-30, while they shot 49% from the field and 84% from the foul line (21-25).

The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Brooklyn College on Saturday for a 1:00pm non-conference match-up.
