SCARLET RAPTORS DEFEAT LADY ROADRUNNERS, 49-46

Camden, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden women's basketball team snapped a 32-game losing streak in New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a 49-46 victory over Ramapo College here Saturday afternoon. Rutgers-Camden improves to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference, Ramapo falls to 9-6 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.

After surrendering the first field goal of the game, the Scarlet Raptors rattled off the next six points – five of them by sophomore forward Alyce Milakovic (Blackwood, NJ/Triton Regional) to jump into the lead for the rest of the half. The Raptors built a 20-10 lead – aided by nine points from junior guard Stephanie Deisley (Riverside, NJ/Holy Cross) before the Roadrunners ran off eight straight points to cut the gap to 20-18. Rutgers-Camden closed out the half with a four-point run to lead, 24-18, at the break.

By halftime, Deisley had 11 points, Turner had seven and Milakovic owned five points for the Raptors. Ramapo's leading scorer was sophomore guard Alexa Ryan (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan).
In the opening half, Rutgers-Camden shot 38.5 percent from the field (10-for-26), while Ramapo shot 23.1 percent (6-for-26). The Raptors also held a 21-15 advantage off the boards.

Ramapo went on a 20-14 run to open the second half, including a nine-point run to tie the game at 38-38 on a layup by sophomore guard Faith Flannery (Keansburg, NJ/Keansburg) with 7:16 remaining. The Roadrunners took their first lead since the opening field goal on another layup by Flannery moments later, making it 40-38.

The two teams tied again at 40-40 and 42-42 before the Raptors took the lead for good on a foul shot by Turner with 3:08 remaining, 43-42. Rutgers-Camden built its lead to 47-42 with 1:16 remaining, aided by a layup from Turner and a pair of foul shots by Milakovic.

Ramapo fought right back, slicing the gap to 47-44 on a pair of foul shots by Ryan with 1:02 remaining before senior guard Samantha Bragg (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) hit a foul shot with 31 seconds left to make it 48-44.

A layup by freshman center Brittany Howes (Freehold, NJ/Colts Neck) cut the margin to 48-46 with 17 seconds remaining and the Raptors missed a pair of foul shots, with Ryan grabbing the rebound and giving the Roadrunners a chance to tie or win the game. Deisley made a big steal in the final seconds and tacked on a foul shot with 1.2 seconds remaining to clinch the victory.
Turner added four steals to her game-high 20 points, while Deisley scored 14 points for the Raptors. Milakovic netted nine points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Bragg had seven rebounds and game-high totals of five assists and five steals. Freshman center Tina Croxton (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) also had seven boards for the Raptors, who held a 37-29 rebounding edge.

Ramapo received 17 points from Ryan and 10 from Flannery. Flannery also added three assists and three steals, while Ryan had a team-high eight rebounds.

For the game, Rutgers-Camden shot 37.5 percent (18-for-48), while Ramapo shot 34.0 (16-for-47).

Ramapo returns to action with a non-conference road game Monday at 2 p.m. at Brooklyn College. Rutgers-Camden travels to NJAC and national powerhouse Kean University for a 6 p.m. game Wednesday.
