SANTANIELLO EARNS FOUR POINTS IN 4-1 VICTORY OVER NJCU

Mahwah, NJ: With three first half goals and an additional in the second, the Ramapo men's soccer team defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 4-1 for their first win in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners improve to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

In the first 45 minutes of play, leading scorer Rob Santaniello (Oakland, NJ) gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead after a NJCU foul put Santaniello 22-yards out with a direct kick. Santaniello put his 11th goal of the season into the back of the net. The goal was marked at 16:42.

Junior Jonathan Yazo (Cliffside Park, NJ) scored his first collegiate career goal off an assist from Frank Vogas (Clifton, NJ) at 20:23 to go up two goals to none before Vogas got one of his own just over two minutes later when rookie Bryan Aguilar (Harrison, NJ) beat the defender and slipped a ball to Vogas waiting alone. The goal gave Ramapo a 3-0 advantage heading into the intermission.

The Gothic Knights, despite falling behind 3-0, led the half in shots with ten. Ramapo recorded nine while corner kicks were even at two apiece. Senior netminder Brad Stockon (Toms River, NJ) made five first half saves and Miguel Perez (Jersey City, NJ) grabbed two of his own.

Santaniello struck again on a breakaway goal at 66:57, unassisted, to put Ramapo up 4-0, before the Gothic Knights put themselves on the scoreboard with 20 minutes to play when a scramble in the box ended in NJCU's favor. Paul Ascencio (Jersey City, NJ) slipped a ball to Nana Kofi Kusi (Jersey City, NJ) who ripped a shot far post past Stockton.

Stockton made another three saves in the second half to get the 4-1 victory in Mahwah. Perez finished the half with four saves.

Ramapo earned four corner kicks in the second half while NJCU took three.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
