RAMAPO FALLS IN SKYLINE ACTION, 10-9

New York, NY: Sophomore attack Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) scored with 41 seconds left in regulation to break a 9-9 tie and send the College of Mount Saint Vincent to an important 10-9 Skyline Conference victory over Ramapo on Saturday night. Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) and Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) each scored three times in the game to lead the Mount.

The Dolphins opened the game with four straight goals in the first half and carried an 8-4 advantage into halftime on Saturday. Martin and Mitchell both scored all three of their goals in the opening 30 minutes.

Ramapo would tighten its defense in the second half and allowed just a pair of Mount Saint Vincent tallies after halftime. Amanda Barretta (Roseland, NJ) had a big second half for the Roadrunners, scoring three straight goals in the second, including the equalizer to knot the score at 9-9 with a 1:34 left in regulation.

After Ramapo won the ensuing draw control, Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) forced a turnover and fed the ball to Caro. She took the ball and went to the cage to pick up the all important game winner for the Dolphins. Ramapo had one more look at the cage in the final seconds, but a shot sailed wide to end the threat.

Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) was the third Dolphin to score at least two goals with her pair of markers on the night. She also picked up two ground balls and won a draw control. Mitchell added four ground balls and four draw controls to her three markers and Martin added three draw controls and a pair of ground balls. Tucci finished the game with a team-high six ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper Jackie Horn (Setauket, N.Y.) played a strong game in the cage for the Dolphins finishing the night with 11 saves, including six in the second half. She also picked up five groundballs for the Dolphins.

Ramapo was led by Barretta who found the back of the cage four times and added a pair of groundballs. Jenna Pfarr (Cranford, NJ) and Jessica Long (Wayne, NJ) each scored twice for the Roadrunners.

For the game Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 27-22, but held the edge in ground balls 33-27. The Dolphins also had a 13-8 advantage in draw controls for the game.

Ramapo returns to action when they travel to Mount St. Mary College at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 20th.
