RAMAPO SWEEPS NJAC RIVAL WPU, 9-1, 6-3

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson University in an NJAC double header today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners improve to 12-10 overall (3-3 NJAC) while the Pioneers fall to 16-7-1 overall (3-3 NJAC).

The Roadrunners jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when senior Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) singled to third base, advanced to second on a single by junior Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ), and came home on an error by the Pioneers second baseman. The Roadrunners plated three runs in the second inning to go up 5-0.

The Pioneers got one run back in the top of the third when junior Samantha Koenig (Levittown, PA) singled to center field, advanced to second on a pass ball, and came home when senior Christina Zippler (Blackwood, NJ) ripped a single to right field. The Roadrunners plated three runs in the bottom of the third, 8-1 and the final run in the sixth, 9-1.

The Roadrunners pounded out twelve hits in the game while junior Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) held the Pioneers to five hits over five innings of work while striking out seven. Donnelly was 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI while junior Stephanie Malgeri (Montville, NJ) was 2-3.

In game two Ramapo took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when aophomore Danielle Rothenberger (Livingston, NJ) hit a homerun to center field bringing in Wong who ripped a single to the shortstop. Ramapo plated one run in third, 3-0 and one in the fourth, 4-0.

The Pioneers got on the board when Lindsey Nadolny (Belford, NJ) singled to lead off the fourth inning for the Pioneers before being knocked in by junior Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, NJ) who ripped a single past third base, 4-1. The Pioneers gained another run in the fifth inning when senior Lacey Santone (South Plainfield, NJ) cracked her fifth home run of the season over center field, 4-2. The Roadrunners fought back plating two more runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead. The Pioneers gained their last run in the seventh, 6-3.

Roadrunner junior pitcher Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) struck out nine in the complete game while surrendering eight hits to pick up her seventh win of the season. Wong was 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Rothenberger was 2-4 scoring two runs and knocking in 3.

The Roadrunners return to action on Sunday when they host the Hawks from Hunter college at 12:00 PM.
