GREGG LEADS ROWAN OVER ROADRUNNERS, 68-59 IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: Junior Lauren Gregg led the Rowan University women's basketball team to a 68-59 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Ramapo College today at the Bradley Center. The Profs improve to 4-3, 1-0 in the conference while the Roadrunners suffer their first loss of the season as they drop to 5-1, 0-1 in the conference.

Gregg led all scorers with 27 points, 11-12 field and was a perfect 4-4 from behind the three point line. Gina Cantanzariti tallied 14 points for Rowan while she grabbed seven rebounds and Brittany Baum added ten rebounds and nine points of her own.

Lindsey Gripenburg led Ramapo with 20 points, five steals and five rebounds while Alexa Ryan tallied 19 points and a team leading seven rebounds. Faith Flannery tallied a team high six assists while sinking nine points with one block and two steals.

The Roadrunners jumped out to their largest lead of the first half, 22-14 with 10:30 remaining when Gripenburg made a basket off a Alayna Donadio steal and a Ryan assist. The Profs then went on a 10-0 run, capped off by a made basket by Lauren Creel to go up by two (24-22) with 4:21 to go in the half. Back to back baskets by Gripenburg and Flannery tied the game at 26 (3:01) before Tiffany Osorio put the Roadrunners up two (28-26, 2:28), as she was assisted by Flannery. Rowan made a basket before Flannery sunk one of her foul shots to stay ahead by one point before Gripenburg made the final basket of the half to take a three-point lead into the locker room for Ramapo, 31-28.

The Roadrunners shot 44.8% from the field (13-29) in the half and 75% from the foul line (3-4) while Rowan shot 54.5% from the field (12-22) and 33.3% from the line; they also shot 42.9% from behind the arc (3-7).

In the second half the two teams traded baskets before Osorio made a jumper and foul shot to put Ramapo up by four, 36-32 before the Profs went on a 9-3 run that put them up two, 41-39 with 13:59 remaining. Ryan made the first foul shot before Flannery made a jumper at 13:08 to take a one point lead, 42-41 before the Profs would start to pull away. With the score tied at 47 with 10:35 to go in the game, Rowan went on an 11-4 run capped off by a three pointer by Ashley Russo to take a seven-point lead with 6:19 remaining in the game.

Ramapo cut the lead to six with 4:44 remaining on a made jumper by Ryan before Rowan made back-to-back baskets to stretch the lead to ten with 3:22 to go. Ryan made both foul shots (3:03) and a Gripenburg made jumper shrinking the Prof lead to six once again, 2:04 (65-59) before Rowan made three foul shots during the last thirty seconds of the game to come away with a 68-59 NJAC win.

The Profs shot 56.3% from the field in the game and shot 53.8% from both the foul line and behind the arc as they knocked down seven three-pointers. The Roadrunners shot 37.5% from the field in the game while going 13-21 (61.9%) from the field.

The Roadrunners return to action when they host Hunter College on Monday, December 6th at 6:00 PM. The Profs travel to Neumann University on December 11th for a 2:00 PM game.
