Mahwah, NJ: The Ospreys of Richard Stockton College earned a 63-50 victory over the Ramapo College women's basketball team tonight at the Bradley Center behind 19 points from LaTonya Oliver. With the New Jersey Athletic Conference victory, the Ospreys improve to 7-2 overall, and 3-0 in the conference. Ramapo falls to 7-2 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
Oliver went 9-12 from the field and pulled down 12 rebounds while Aliyah Nelson hit 3-9 from the field for 11 points. The team shot 24-47 (51%) and forced 21 Ramapo turnovers in the 13-point victory. Lauren Alwan grabbed six steals on the night.
Lindsey Gripenburg led the Roadrunners with ten points while
Danielle Beam contributed eight.
Alexa Ryan and Micaele Moore chipped in seven points each. The team shot 19-66 (29%) in the loss.
At the half, the Ospreys held a 32-37 advantage after shooting a combined 12-24 (50%) from the field behind 15 points from Oliver. Oliver grabbed a team high nine rebounds and assisted her team in causing 13 Ramapo turnovers while Noelle Hogan dished out four assists and grabbed four boards for Stockton. Beam led the Roadrunners with seven points and Osorio added six while
Faith Flannery grabbed a team high three steals. Ramapo went 10-35 (29%) from the field in the first 20 minutes of play. The lead changed seven times until 8:27 when Oliver hit a jumper to put the Ospreys up, 16-15. Stockton held the lead for the remaining minutes, their biggest lead coming with just over one minute to play as Noelle Hogan hit a two-point goal to go up nine, 32-23. Ramapo's Moore and Ryan hit back-to-back baskets to cut the gap to five points heading into the locker room.
Ramapo spent the opening four minutes of the second half earning their way to a one-point lead when Flannery hit a basket to gain a 39-38 edge. Nelson responded with a basket from behind the arc, before
Samantha Maggio sunk two points to tie the game for the fourth time, 41-41 with 14:49 on the clock. Over the next ten minutes of play, Stockton sunk 15 points and held Ramapo to only four to gain a 56-45 advantage. Ramapo finally got on the board with 4:30 to play with two good free throws from Moore to come within nine. Ramapo out scored Stockton, 6-4 in the final minutes but it wasn't enough to surpass the Ospreys in the NJAC basketball match-up. Nelson led the Ospreys with 11 points and Alwan netted ten while Gripenburg recorded eight points leading Ramapo in the half.
Ramapo heads to Williamsport, PA for the Lycoming Classic when they return to action on December 29th and 30th. Ramapo will take on Lycoming on the 29th at 6pm.
