VOGAS NETS GOLDEN GOAL TO LEAD RAMAPO OVER MSU, 1-0

Montclair, NJ: Junior Frank Vogas (Clifton, NJ) scored with 6:55 remaining in the first overtime as Ramapo College upended Montclair State, 1-0 in a key New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.

The Roadrunners (11-2-4, 5-1-3 NJAC) picked up a victory that could net them a first-round bye in the NJAC Tournament which gets underway on Saturday, October 27. Ramapo is currently tied with MSU (18 points) and a point ahead of William Paterson for the potential No. 2 seed in the tournament. Should William Paterson falter against Kean on Wednesday evening, the Roadrunners would get that bye in the first round and host a tournament semifinal on Tuesday, November 2.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Rogic (Boonton, NJ) made four saves for Montclair State (12-4-2, 6-3 NJAC), which suffered a second straight overtime loss. The defeat now forces Montclair to play an opening-round NJAC Tournament game for the first time since 2005. MSU would be the No. 3 or No. 4 seed depending on the outcome of the WPU-Kean contest.

Scoreless through the first two periods, Ramapo, which played the final 39:19 a player short following a red card, got the only two shots of the extra session. Sophomore Rob Santaniello's (Oakland, NJ) header attempt 1:11 into the period went just wide. Two minutes later, after the ball was played down into the box, MSU looked to clear. The ball managed to stay inside where sophomore Joseph Kane (Delran, NJ) was able to settle it on the left side before slipping the ball to an awaiting Vogas for the game-winning tally.

Senior goalkeeper Brad Stockton (Toms River, NJ) made four saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Stockton also got a little bit of help as Larry Geraghty's (Cranford, NJ) rocket shot off a free kick banged off the crossbar in the 23rd minute.

The Red Hawks outshot the Roadrunners, 8-3 in the first half and 9-5 over the final 45 minutes of regulation finishing with a 17-10 margin in that category. MSU also held the edge in corner kicks at 10-7.

After the corner kick, neither team generated many scoring attempts despite each side creating opportunities. Montclair then caught a break as the red card on Ramapo at 54:46 gave MSU the man-advantage for the rest of the game. Montclair would get three solid chances, the first by Kevin Zalewski (Parsippany, NJ) at 68:49 that was snared by Stockton. Jay Fartura (Kearny, NJ) then got a chance with 8:57 left however his shot from the top of the six went high and Dan Mendoza's (Hackensack, NJ) header was also saved by Stockton.

Santaniello nearly gave Ramapo the win with 1:47 left as he rocketed a shot off a free kick from 25 yards out over the wall but Rogic smothered the shot to keep the game scoreless.
