Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to the Lions of The College of New Jersey tonight at the Bradley Center, 68-58. The Lions improve to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 8-12, 2-7 in the NJAC.
The Lions jumped out to a ten point lead 25-15 with 9:54 to go in the game on a lay up from Hannah Tait.
Ramapo cut the lead to six with 7:48 on the clock when rookie
Alexa Ryan (Hazlet, NJ) hit both foul shots, 25-19. The Lions took their biggest lead with 1:41 to go in the half on a three pointer from Tait, 35-23. Juniors
Brittany Hoffman (Belford, NJ) sank both foul shots while
Danielle Beam (Middletown, NJ) hit a jumper to cut the lead to eight as time expired.
Early in the second half rookie
Meghan Reilly (Morganville, NJ) would cut the lead to five on a made jumper and foul shot with 18:19 on the clock, 35-30. The Lions stretched the lead to 12 on a made jumper by Katie Occhipinti (Warren, NJ), 46-34.
Rookie
Faith Flannery (Red Bank, NJ) would make one of two foul shots before junior
Lindsey Gripenburg (Bloomingdale, NJ) sunk a jumper at 13:34. Ryan made two fouls shots before she made back to back to back three point baskets, 51-42 with 9:35 remaining in the game.
The Lions would go on an 8-0 run before Beam made a jumper with 7:19 remaining, 61-47. Megan Hartline (Kinnelon, NJ) made a jumper for the Lions before senior
Mallory Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) hit a jumper and foul shot. Ryan would get fouled on a drive to the basket as she made both fouls shots cutting the lead to 11, 63-52 before Reilly cut the lead even further with a made jumper at 4:22 on the clock, 63-55. The Lions would make five of six foul shots down the stretch for the victory, 68-58.
Tait and Jessica Imhof (Flemington, NJ) led the Lions with 17 points. Tait added seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in 36 minutes of play.
For the Roadrunners Ryan led the team with 17 points as she knocked down three three-pointers and was a perfect 8-8 from the foul line. Beam tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Reilly added 14 points. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Lions, 32-27 while shooting 82% foul line. They shot 40% from the field to TCNJ's 47%.
The Roadrunners return to action on February 3rd on the road at NJAC rival William Paterson University at 6:00 PM.
