NJCU SLIPS PAST RAMAPO, 58-55

Reilly nets season high 24 points

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University tonight at the Bradley Center, 58-55.  NJCU improves to 4-11 overall, 2-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

The Gothic Knights used a 9-0 and a 8-0 run in the first half to take a 25-16 lead into the locker room. Latifah Johnson (Newark, NJ) tallied eight points, four assists and four steals and grabbed six rebounds to lead NJCU in the half.

The Roadrunners came back in the second half with a 10-0 run when senior Mallory Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) was fouled and made both shots before rookies Faith Flannery (Red Bank, NJ)and Meghan Reilly (Morganville, NJ) hit back to back jumpers to come within four, 32-28. Junior Lindsey Gripenburg (Bloomingdale, NJ) then hit a shot at 12:29 before Flannery tied the game with a drive to the basket with 12:05 remaining. 32-32.

The Gothic Knights would stretch the lead to as many as seven, 45-38, with 8:13 to go with a made jumper by Ashley Freeman (Paterson, NJ) before the Roadrunners came within one point, on a made basket by Grippenburg, 48-49 (5:16).

A jumper and a foul shot put the Gothic Knights up 52-48 before a made foul shot by junior Brittany Hoffman (Belford, NJ) and a jumper by Reilly cut the lead to two, 53-51 with 1:55 remaining in the game. Grippenburg's jumper at 1:08 tied the game at 53 before Freeman hit a big three pointer for NJCU with 49 seconds to go. She was assisted by Johnson. Flannery was fouled on a drive to the basket with 38 seconds left as she made both shots to come within one, 56-55. NJCU missed their next shot with 15 seconds remaining and Ramapo could not convert their shot as NJCU's Pria Duhaney (Union, NJ) rebounded the ball and Johnson made a basket at the buzzer on a breakaway, 58-55.

For Ramapo, Reilly tallied a season high 24 points as she went 11-20 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Grippenburg netted 12 points and grabbed six rebounds while Flannery tallied ten points and ten rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Flannery also dished out a team high five assists and three blocks.

Four Gothic Knights scored in double figures. Johnson led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds while Freeman added 13 of her own. Lindia Fischer (Bayonne, NJ) grabbed nine rebounds and added 11 points while Meisha Cooke (Paterson, NJ) chipped in ten points.

NJCU out rebounded the Roadrunners, 43-39 and had an advantage in steals 14-5 and pressed the Roadrunners for 21 turnovers. Ramapo shot 40% from the field and 69% from the foul line in the game while the Gothic Knights shot 33% from the field and 51% from the foul line.

The Roadrunners travel to NJAC foe Richard Stockton College on Saturday at 3:00 PM while the
Gothic Knights host Rowan University at 2:00 PM.
