Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College, 71-66 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
The Profs had three players that scored in double figures. Forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) led the way with game-highs of 18 points and 18 rebounds. The 18 rebounds tied her career mark. Forward Michele Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) contributed with 13 points and guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) added 12.
Guard Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) totaled six points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Guard Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) had seven points, five rebounds and five assists.
Rowan has a 9-5 overall record and a 3-1 conference mark. Ramapo drops to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC. For the Roadrunners, forward
Meghan Reilly (fr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) scored 15 points and grabbed six boards. Center
Danielle Beam (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) came off the bench for 12 points and 11 rebounds. Guard
Alexa Ryan (fr. Hazlet, NJ/Hazlet) registered 13 points and seven rebounds. Guard
Faith Flannery (fr. Red Bank, NJ/Keansburg) had seven points and eight rebounds.
With 5:56 remaining in the game, Rowan was ahead 59-49 after a foul shot by Lamey. Ramapo pulled within two points (63-61) at 2:07after a 12-4 run that lasted 3:39. Six different players scored in the comeback. Catanzariti's jumper with 1:56 remaining made the score 65-61. Ryan hit two free throws at 1:25 to trail by two (65-63). Lamey followed with two foul shots (1:11) and Catanzariti had a layup (00:31) for a six point advantage (69-63). Beam's jumper (00:23) and a free throw (00:05) by forward
Lindsey Gripenburg (so. Bloomingdale, NJ/Butler) cut the deficit to three (69-66). Jennings sealed the win with two foul shots at the four second mark.
The Profs started the second half with a seven point lead (35-28). Jennings' basket at 16:19 made the score 41-31. Rowan was up by 13 points after a layup by Catanzariti at 12:56. Ryan (12:20) and Reilly (11:24) each had two free throws and the Roadrunners trailed by nine points (51-42). Jennings had a layup (9:54) that increased the lead to 13 points (55-42). Ramapo followed with five straight points to pull within eight (55-47) at 7:48. Reilly scored four of the five points.
In the first half, Rowan had a three point lead (12-9) at 14:19. The Profs pulled away with 12 unanswered points for a 15 point advantage (24-9) at 10:51. Jennings scored six points while Lala and Rohe had three apiece. Beam's layup made the score 24-15 at 8:50.
Rohe hit a three-pointer (8:01) for a 12 point lead (27-15). Ramapo trailed by nine points (31-22) after a jumper by Reilly with 5:01 left. Beam (3:01), Reilly (2:30) and Gripenberg (2:00) each had a basket to cut the deficit to five points (33-28). Forward Erin Farrell (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made a jumper at 1:43 for the Profs to end the scoring (35-28).
Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, January 16 for a 3 p.m. conference game. Ramapo returns to action on Saturday as well when they host Kean University at 5:00 PM.
