Meghan Reilly (Morganville, NJ), and
Faith Flannery (Red Bank, NJ) paced the Ramapo College women's basketball team to a 70-37 victory over the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden University tonight in a New Jersey Atheltic Conference match-up at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners earn their first conference win of the season, improving to 1-2 (6-7 overall), while Rutgers Camden remains defeated in the conference at 0-4 (2-10 overall), dropping their eighth straight game.
Ryan led Ramapo hitting 8-12 from the floor, including 4-6 from behind the three-point arc, for 22 points, while Reilly and Flannery chipped in 21 and 15 points respectively on the night.
Mallory Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) dished out a team high five assists and Reilly pulled down a team high 11 rebounds recording her second double-double of the season.
The Scarlet Raptors took just under six minutes at the start of the first half to sink basket while the Roadrunners netted seven baskets for a 13-0 edge in the opening minutes. Ramapo spread their lead to as many as 30 points which came with 00:36 on the clock when Flannery hit a jump shot to go up 42-12. The Scarlet Raptors would hit a jump shot at the buzzer to head into the intermission trailing Ramapo, 42-14. Ramapo went 17-33 (52%) in the opening half and Rutgers Camden made only six field goals on 26 attempts shooting 23% in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Rutgers Camden went on a mini 6-2 run to start the second half of play, sparked by two free throws from Catherine Tadeja (Cherry Hill, NJ), to close the gap to 24, 44-20, with 15:28 to play. Ramapo kept control of the game and would outscore Rutgers Camden, 26-17 in the final minutes of play, earning the 33 point, 70-37 victory. Ramapo hit 10-19 (53%) and Rutgers Camden went 6-22 (27%) in the final half.
All Scarlet Raptors were held to single digit points, Stephanie Deisley (Riverside, NJ) and Tadeja leading the way with nine points each. Deisley grabbed a team high seven rebounds and Samantha Bragg (Lindenwold, NJ) grabbed four steals in the game.
The Roadrunners head to Rowan University where they will continue NJAC play at 6:00pm in Glassboro, NJ on Wednesday, January 13th, while Rutgers Camden takes on TCNJ at 6:00pm on Wednesday in Ewing, NJ.
