ROWAN SWEEPS RAMAPO IN NJAC OPENER

Mahwah, NJ: The Profs from Rowan University snapped the Ramapo College softball team's 12-game win streak with a 2-0 shutout in game one and a 5-1 come from behind win in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 12-2 overall and 0-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Profs improve to 13-5 and 2-0 in the conference.

Rowan got all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning in game one when junior Stephanie Taraschi (Mt. Ephraim, NJ) ripped a two-run home run scoring junior Heidi Smith (Hainesport, NJ) who reached on a single to right field to lead off the inning. The Profs' senior pitcher Jackie Sasko (Groveville, NJ) would hold the runners to three hits, striking out six batters without surrendering a walk to pick up her eight win of the season.

The Roadrunners had a chance to score in the bottom half of the first inning when junor Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) singled and stole second base to lead off the inning. Sophomore Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out but the Profs would retire the next two batters to preserve the lead.

Ramapo starter Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) fell to 6-1 overall, she recorded three strikeouts and one walk in the loss while giving up nine hits.

Smith was 3-4 while Taraschi was 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI in the game for the Profs. For the Roadrunners Donnelly collected all three hits for Ramapo going a perfect 3-3 in the game.

In game two, Ramapo got on the board in the fourth inning when Wong ripped a ball up the middle to score rookie Laura Herget (Paramus, NJ) who doubled to right field to lead off the inning before stealing third base.

Rowan tied the game in the fifth when rookie Ashley Minch (Pennsville, NJ) ripped a solo home run over the left field fence before they took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The bases were loaded with Prof's before rookie Julie Leskanic (West Milford, NJ) picked up the RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field before Minch knocked in two more with a double to left field. Smith recorded an infield single to plate Minch for a 5-1 lead.

Sasko picked up the win in relief as she entered the game in the fourth inning for starter Amanda Singer (Monmouth Jct, NJ). Singer went 3.1 innings, surrendering seven hits while striking out two and walking four. Sasko finished the final 3.2 innings of the game giving up no hits and striking out four.

Smith was 2-4 while senior Kristina Brenner (Vineland, NJ) was a perfect 3-3 in the game and Minch was 2-2 with two runs scored and three RBI.

For the Roadrunners, sophomore Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) took the loss falling to 6-1 on the year, she struck out five and only walked one while allowing 11 hits. Wong was 3-4 with an RBI in the game while Herget was 1-2 with one run scored.

The Roadrunners return to action when they face off against NJAC rival Montclair State University on Tuesday, March 31st at 3:00 PM.
