Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team now stands at 8-0 on the season after defeating Hope College (2-5), 3-2 in eight innings and shutting out Fontbonne University (1-6), 5-0.
Senior
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) ripped a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the second inning to put the Roadrunners ahead 1-0 against the Flying Dutch from Hope College.
Sophomore
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) who led off the fourth inning with a walk, scored from third base with two outs while rookie
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) was caught in a run down between first and second and tagged out for the final out of the inning after Wong had crossed home plate.
In the top of the sixth inning Hope would score on a Ramapo error to come within one run, before they took the lead on a sacrifice fly to center field.
Ramapo would load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning but could not capitalize on the opportunity, sending the game into extra innings. The Roadrunners held the Flying Dutch in the top of the eighth with three straight outs before winning the game in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore
Jaclyn Giangrande (Belleville, NJ) started on second base and was moved over to third on junior
Jen Vitorino's infield ground out. Sophomore #Rachel Wong stepped up to the plate and with two strikes she ripped a ball past the shortstop and into center field to plate the winning run for Ramapo.
Sophomore
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) picked up her fourth win of the season, despite Ramapo committing three errors in the game. She struck out five batters, walked none and only gave up three hits and two runs scored (one earned).
Farmer was 2-3 in the game with a run scored and one RBI while Schriber was also 2-3.
In game two against Fontbonne University, the Roadrunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings of play. Vitorino hit her first home run of the season over the right field fence in the top of the first inning. Ramapo scored their second run in the top of the second inning when Fischer scored from third base on a wild pitch, she singled to right center field earlier in the inning.
With the bases loaded and one out sophomore
Stephanie Malgeri (Montville, NJ) knocked in pinch runner rookie Brittany Speigel (Stewartsville, NJ) with a single before Fischer would cross the plate on a pass ball. Pinch hitter rookie
Laura Herget (Paramus, NJ) knocked in Ramapo's fifth run of the game with a hard hit single to right field plating rookie
Brittany Morgan (Colonia, NJ) who recorded a pinch hit fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
Sophomore
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) struck out nine batters in the complete game shutout only surrendering two hits. Ramapo pounded out ten hits and scoring five runs in the game, Schriber went 3-4 while Farmer was 2-3 along with Fischer who added two runs scored.
The Roadrunners return to action at the Rebel Spring Games when they take on Anderson at 1:00 PM and Wisconsin-Stout at 3:00 PM
