ROADRUNNERS FALL TO TCNJ IN NJAC MATCH-UP

Ewing, NJ:  The Lions of TCNJ defeated visiting Ramapo College by the score 20-2 in their first game as a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference today in a women's lacrosse match-up held in Ewing, NJ.

This marks the first year of the sport being sponsored by the NJAC with TCNJ, Ramapo, Kean University, Montclair State University, and Rowan University being the inaugural members. Earlier in the week, Ramapo participated in the conference's first game falling to Rowan.

In the NJAC's preseason poll voted on by the coaches, TCNJ was unanimously tabbed as the conference favorite and Thursday the Lions got off to a good start in living up to that claim handling the Roadrunners.

After the Roadrunners (0-2, 0-2 NJAC) took a 1-0 lead on a free-position shot by Colleen Steel (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo), the Lions reeled off the next seven goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead 22:38. Senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and sophomore Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) each contributed to TCNJ's run scoring a pair of goal each.

After Ramapo netted its second goal off of the stick of Christina Cigolini (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), the Lions responded by scoring the final nine goals of the half to take a 16-2 advantage into the half.

The Lions then accounted for the only three goals in the second half improving to 2-0 on the season.

Jaeger led the way for TCNJ with five goals, while senior Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and junior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each scored three times. Gordon added to the offense with a pair of assist rounding out her five-point performance.

In goal for the Lions, sophomore Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) made two saves for her second straight win.

For the Roadrunners, Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ/Wayne) had five saves and Diana Silva (Howell, NJ/Howell) made one.

TCNJ will play its first road game of the season on Monday, March 16 as they head to Kean University for another NJAC match-up. Game time is 4 p.m. Next up for the Roadrunners,  they host Westfield State on Saturday, March 14 at noon.
