MSU TOPS RAMAPO IN WOMEN'S HOOPS

Montclair, NJ(2/7/09) – Sophomore guard Jamilee Pflug (Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson) scored agame-high 15 points to lead five players in double-figures as Montclair Statewon its fourth straight downing Ramapo College 81-38 in an NJAC North Division contest at the MSU Student Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Catherine Cristino (Farmingdale, NJ/ ColtsNeck) posted 14 points and five rebounds as the Red Hawks improved to 15-7overall and 9-2 in the league's North Division. Montclair maintained it's half-game lead over William Paterson (8-2) for the No. 1 spot from the division which would earn a first-round bye and host an NJAC Tournament semifinal on February 24.

Junior center Beth Weinmann (Pequannock, NJ/ Pequannock) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds forRamapo, which fell to 9-13 overall, 4-7 in the NJAC North.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first 3:07 ofthe game as Jackie Berry (Tuckerton, NJ / Pinelands Regional) scored on a layup and later added a free throw for a 3-0 advantage. Pflug finished off a break for the next basket and Berry added another bucket from inside the key as Montclair scored 20 of the game's first 23 points.

Junior Kisandra Ayanbeku (Burlington,NJ / Randolph) scored 11 in the opening 20 minutes with Pflug and Berry added nine and eight respectively as the Red Hawks shot 52 percent (17-of-33) en route to a 49-19 halftime lead.

Ayanbeku finished with 13 points and six rebounds for Montclair State which got 11 points off the bench from sophomore Kara Burnham (Moorestown,NJ / Moorestown). Senior Marianne McGovern (Fair Lawn, NJ / Paramus Catholic), honored prior to the game along with assistant coach Meghan Kelley (Newtown, CT / Newtown), had 10 points seven assists and four steals for MSU, which out rebounded Ramapo,47-35. Berry collected eight points, six rebounds and eight assists.

Freshman Lindsey Grippenburg (Bloomingdale,NJ / Butler) had 11 points to lead Ramapo, which struggled from the field shooting. The Roadrunners connected on 16-of-56 shots (29 percent) from the floor. Rookie #MalloryCornett# (Hawthorne, NJ/ Hawthorne) and senior Tiffany China (West Orange, NJ / West Orange) each had six points.

Montclair State returns to action on Monday, February 9 as they go out of conference. The Red Hawks travel to New York City to face Hunter College at 5;00 pm. Ramapo is in action on Wednesday, February 11 at the John J. Moore Athletic Center in Jersey City. The Roadrunners face New Jersey City University at 6:00 pm.
