Gripenburg Powers Ramapo Over Rutgers-Camden Women

Sewell, N.J.:  Freshman forward Lindsey Gripenburg (Bloomingdale, NJ/Butler) collected a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to power the Ramapo College women's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 77-61, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game Saturday at Gloucester County College.

Ramapo improves to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the NJAC with its second straight win.  Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-15 overall and 0-7 in the NJAC with its fourth straight loss.  Ramapo's victory snaps the Raptors' two-game winning streak in the series. The Lady Raptors lead the all-time series, 30-15.

After three early lead changes and three ties, Ramapo took the lead for good, 13-12, on a layup by junior guard Malika Gilliam (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark). The Roadrunners built their lead to 41-28 by halftime, sparked by 10 first-half points from sophomore guard Stephanie Cannizzaro (Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock). For the Lady Raptors, senior guard Shamira McNair (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had 10 first-half points.

Cannizzaro finished with 16 points for Ramapo, tying for game-high honors with the Raptors' sophomore forward Karima Blackwell (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling). The Roadrunners also received 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots from junior center Beth Weinmann (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock), while Gripenburg had her 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman forward Mallory Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) added 10 points and a game-high four steals for the Roadrunners.

For Rutgers-Camden, Blackwell finished with 16 points, aided by 9-for-13 shooting from the foul line, and had five rebounds. McNair added a career-high 14 points, passing her previous high of 12, accomplished twice. She also tied her career high of three steals.

Another Raptor guard, freshman Casey Crenny (Blackwood, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 14 points, including 3-for-7 shooting from three-point range.

Rutgers-Camden freshman forward Regina Ondah (Jersey City, NJ/St. Anthony), making her Lady Raptor debut, grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Ramapo shot 61.1 percent from the floor (33-for-54), sparked by Cannizzaro's 7-for-11 shooting, which mostly came on layups. Rutgers-Camden shot 32.7 percent (18-for-55). The Roadrunners held a 35-28 advantage off the boards.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday with an 8 p.m. NJAC game at Richard Stockton College. Ramapo has the week off before playing Saturday, Jan. 31, in a 1 p.m. conference game at The College of New Jersey.
