Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) and junior
Andre Kenny (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) each scored 18 points and combined for 11 rebounds to power the Ramapo College men's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 75-59, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game Saturday at Gloucester County College.
Ramapo improves to 11-8 overall and evens its record at 4-4 in the NJAC with its second straight win. The Roadrunners have won 11 straight games against Rutgers-Camden to lead the all-time series, 37-12.
Rutgers-Camden, which has lost its last four games, falls to 4-14 overall and 0-7 in the NJAC.
After the teams traded six early leads and played to a 13-13 tie, Ramapo took the lead for good, 15-13, on a jumper by freshman forward
LaQuan Peterkin (Paterson, NJ/John F. Kennedy). The Roadrunners opened up a 38-30 halftime lead behind the play of swingman Wesley, who scored 13 points in the opening 20 minutes on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-3 in three-pointers. He also went 1-for-2 from the line.
Rutgers-Camden received 10 first-half points from junior guard Joshua Askew (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township).
The Roadrunners scored the first four points of the second half, but Rutgers-Camden answered with six straight to make it a 42-36 game with 17:44 remaining. Ramapo followed with a 24-5 run to put the game away.
Wesley finished with six rebounds and Kenny added five to go along with their 18 points. Senior forward
Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic) notched 13 points and had a game-high seven rebounds to help Ramapo hold a 40-36 edge off the boards. Findlay also had a game-high seven steals.
Askew finished with 13 points for the Scarlet Raptors, while freshman guard Joe Bush (New Brunswick, NJ/Somerset County Vo-Tech) added 11 points, nine in the second half. The 11 points set a new career high for Bush, who had hit for nine on a pair of occasions earlier this season.
Rutgers-Camden received six rebounds apiece from sophomore Jared Meredith (Lakewood, NJ/Medford Tech) and junior Mike Meloni (Palmyra, NJ/Burlington County Institute of Technology).
Ramapo shot 43.8 percent from the floor (28-for-64) and 76.2 percent (16-for-21) from the foul line, with Kenny going 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.
Rutgers-Camden went 20-for-55 (36.4 percent) from the floor and 13-for-17 (76.5 percent) from the line.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday with a 6 p.m. NJAC game at Richard Stockton College. Ramapo is idle until Saturday, Jan. 31, when it plays a 3 p.m. conference game at The College of New Jersey
