ROADRUNNERS GET SECOND NJAC WIN, DEFEAT NJCU, 58-47

Mahwah, NJ: Led by senior Tiffany China (West Orange, NJ), the Ramapo College women's basketball team earned their second New Jersey Athletic Conference victory tonight over the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 58-47. Ramapo improves to 2-5 in the conference while standing at 7-10 overall.  NJCU falls to 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

China finished the game with a team high 20 points, hitting 6-15 from the field, and a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. China grabbed three steals and dished out two assists while sophomore Stephanie Cannizzaro (Pequannock, NJ) grabbed a team high six steals. Cannizzaro hit 3-15 from the field for eight points, and pulled down seven rebounds. The Roadrunners hit a combined 21 field goals on their 60 attempts (35%) while NJCU sunk 21-70 (30%) in the game. Ebony Cunningham (East Orange, NJ) and Carolina Garcia (Plainfield, NJ) each recorded 14 points totaling 28 of the team's 47 game points. Shayla Daniels (Jersey City, NJ) pulled own a team high 15 boards while sinking eight points.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the start of the game before two baskets from the charity stripe put the Gothic Knights on the board. Ramapo's Lindsey Gripenburg (Bloomingdale, NJ) and China hit back-to-back baskets before a Gothic Knight 7-0 run, sparked by Garcia, put NJCU up, 9-8. Ramapo sunk the next basket to again lead by one, 10-9, but NJCU answered with two three-point goals, split by a jumper, to gain a 17-12 edge over Ramapo with 10:17 to play in the half. The Roadrunners spent the next five minutes and 12 seconds sinking seven baskets and forcing six Gothic Knight turnovers, to take a 24-17 lead. In the final 5:05 of the half, Ramapo outscored NJCU by a slim 7-6, to head into the intermission with a 31-23 advantage. China led all Roadrunners with 12 points while Cannizzaro added six to the team's 31 first half points. Ramapo combined hitting 12-28 (43%) from the field. Garcia went 5-12 from the field for 12 points while the team hit 9-30 (30%).

At the start of the second half of play, the Gothic Knights held the Roadrunners to no baskets, and scored three of their own to close the gap, 31-29. Ramapo finally got on the board at 15:25 when China hit two shots from the free throw line to go up, 33-29. Over the next eight minutes, Ramapo took complete control of the game sinking 15 points, holding NJCU to four. The Roadrunners forced seven Gothic Knight turnovers over the stretch, taking a 15-point, 50-35 lead, with 6:28 on the clock. The Roadrunners held their double-digit advantage until 00:47, when a jump shot from Cunningham put NJCU within nine. A basket from Beth Weinmann (Pompton Plains, NJ) put Ramapo up 11, and a counter basket from Lashawn Overton (Jersey City, NJ) put NJCU again within nine, before two baskets from the charity stripe from Brittany Hoffman (Belford, NJ) gave the Roadrunners the 58-47 victory on their home court. China added eight more points in the second half and NJCU's Cunningham and Overton each contributed eight. Daniels pulled down 13 of her 15 rebounds in the final half of play. Ramapo went 9-32 (28%) to NJCU's 12-40 (30%).
