Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept Hunter College today to raise their record to23-7 overall while the Hawks fall to 11-13.
In game one sophomore
Katie Donnelly (North Haledon, NJ) ripped a triple to right field before senior
Lauren Cascino (New Windsor, NY) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to put the Roadrunners up 1-0.
The score would remain the same until the fifth inning when Ramapo scored two more runs to take a 3-0 lead. Three straight singles would load the bases for Donnelly who singled back to the pitcher and scored pinch runner rookie Ashley O'Rourke (Pequannock, NJ) from third base. Senior
Tara Eagel (Ocean Twp., NJ) would score the third run on Cascino's fielder's choice to shortstop.
The Roadrunners would hold the Hawks the rest of the game to pick up their 22nd win of the season. Rookie
Lyndsay Buehler (River Vale, NJ) struck out eight in a complete game shutout only allowing three hits.
In game two the Hawks produced three straight singles to load the bases for Jennifer Damroth who grounded to the shortstop for a fielder's choice which scored Danielle Maresca to taka a 1-0 lead in the first.
Ramapo would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning when Donnelly reached base on a bunt single then stole second before being advanced to third on a ground out. Cascino then hit a deep fly ball to left field to score Donnelly to tie the game, 1-1.
Ramapo took the lead in the fourth inning scoring two runs on rookie
Rachel Wong's (Livingston, NJ) single, scoring pinch runner Jackie Giangrande (Belleville, NJ) and junior
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ).
The Hawks tied the game in their half of the fifth when Priscilla Gonzalez-Alices laced a single to centerfield scoring Megan McKenna and Jackie Frank who each reached base on singles.
Cascino ripped a single to left center and moved to second when the throw into the infield was misplayed and moved to third on a single to right center from junior
Kelly Schriber (Montclair, NJ). Farmer ripped a single inside the third base line to score Cascino for the 4-3 victory.
Senior
Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) picked up the win in relief improving to 7-3 on the year with two strikeouts and giving up two hits and no runs scored. Rookie
Kristina Jimenez (West Milford, NJ) recorded a no-decision allowing six hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Schriber was 3-5 on the day while Wong was 2-4 with two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action when they host NJAC foe Rutgers-Newark University on April 15th at 3:00 PM.
