Kissimmee, FL: The Ramapo College softball team picked up two victories today over Defiance College and Cortland State College. The Roadrunners posted a come-from-behind, 8-5, victory over Defiance before shutting out Cortland State, 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first in the first inning when Kayla Crager singled home Marah Robinson who reached on a single before Defiance scored four unearned runs in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead.
The Roadrunners scored one run in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore
Jamie Chalkley (West Milford, NJ) ripped a single to get on base. Rookie
Rachel Wong (Livingston, NJ) picked up the RBI as she grounded out to second. Ramapo tied the game in the fourth inning 5-5. Junior's
Marilee Farmer (Toms River, NJ) and
Kelly Schriber (Montclair, NJ) each singled to start the inning before rookie
Brittney McKeon (Toms River, NJ) ripped a two RBI triple. Junior
Amanda Sansevere (Hazlet, NJ) singled home McKeon to tie the score at five all. Sansevere advanced to second on a pass ball and moved to third on a Chalkley ground out before coming home on a single by sophomore
Katie Donnelly (North Haldeon, NJ) to put the Roadrunners ahead 6-5. Ramapo tacked on one run each in the fifth and in the sixth innings to take an 8-5 lead. Rookie
Cherese Matthews (Pequannock, NJ) pinch hit cracking a double down the left field line before rookie Ashley O'Rourke (Pequannock, NJ) pinch hit and tripled to left center field to pick up the RBI. Wong then plated O'Rourke to take the three run edge.
Senior
Heather Camb (Totowa, NJ) started the game for Ramapo, striking out four in three innings of work. Rookie
Deanna Giordano (Clifton, NJ) started the fourth inning and picked up the win. She recorded seven strikeouts while giving up only one hit.
Donnelly was 2-3 while Farmer was 2-4 with two runs scored. Schriber went 2-3.
In game two, senior right-hander
Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) pitched a complete, one-hit, shutout over Cortland State College. Wong singled home senior
Kendall Patton (Hammonton, NJ) who reached base on an error to lead off the fifth inning for the game's only run.
Norton struck out eight Red Dragons in seven innings of work.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow against # 15 Coe College at 9:00 AM and Emerson College at 1:00 PM.
