Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners fell short to the Lions of The College of New Jersey today at the Bradley Center, 74-39, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up. With the loss, the Roadrunners fall to 3-18 overall and 0-10 in the NJAC, while TCNJ improves to 16-5 overall, 7-2 in the conference.
The College of New Jersey opened to a 21 point halftime lead after Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ) shot a perfect 6-6 from the field and 2-3 from the free throw line earning 14 points. Klimowicz started the scoring hitting a jumper and Ramapo's Lauren Moscel (Fair Lawn, NJ) answered with a three-pointer to put the Roadrunners up by one, their only lead of the half. In the next eight minutes, the Lions held the Roadrunners to no baskets going on a 15-0 run sparked by Klimowicz which ended with the Lions up, 17-3 with 11:27 on the clock. Tiffany China (West Orange, NJ) hit a jumper to come within ten before Alexandra Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ) put TCNJ up by 12 points for the third time in the half, 19-7. Ramapo would come within ten just one more time with two free throws from
Malika Gilliam (Roselle, NJ), before a 15-6 TCNJ run put the Lions up 21 heading into the intermission, 36-15.
TCNJ forced 14 Ramapo turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play while holding the Roadrunners to five field goals. TCNJ went 16-29 (55%) in the half and Ramapo shot 5-21 (24%) as a team. Alyssa Michella (Washington Township, NJ) grabbed four steals and Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ) pulled down a team high four boards. Moschel led the Roadrunners with five points and China and Gilliam added four each.
In the first four minutes of the second half, Klemowicz and Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ) combined for eight points and Kutch added two, giving the Lions a 26 point, 46-20 edge over the Roadrunners. Michella hit a shot from behind the arc putting the Lions up by 30 with 11:00 minutes to go and Stephanie Prall (Kinnelon, NJ) hit a lay-up off the steal at 6:08 to give the Lions a 70-32 advantage. In the next four minutes both teams were unable to sink a basket and Ramapo's
Danielle Beam (Middletown, NJ) broke the streak with 2:39 left to play sinking the front end of a two shot foul. The Lions kept control in the final minutes of play earning the 74-39 victory in Mahwah.
Klemowicz finished hitting 10-12 from the field for 23 points and Kutch wrapped up the night with ten of her own. The team went 32-59 (54%) while Ramapo finished the game with 14 field goals on 60 attempts making 23% of their shots. Moschel finished on top of all Roadrunners with seven points and Gilliam dished out a team high four assists.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 13th when they travel to Hunter College for a 5:00 PM tip-off.
