ROADRUNNERS EARN TIP-OFF CROWN WITH 56-47 WIN OVER BROOKLYN

Mahwah, NJ: Sophomore Stephanie Cannizzaro (Pequannock, NJ) was named tournament Most Valuable Player after leading her team to a 56-47 victory over Brooklyn College today at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to .500, standing at 2-2 overall, while Brooklyn records their first loss of the season, falling to 2-1 overall.

Cannizzaro finished the game with 20 points and seven rebounds while Lindsey Gripenburg (Bloomingdale, NJ) netted 13 points and six boards in the win. The team combined hitting 17-52 from the field (33%). Brittney Hoffman (Belford, NJ) added eight points and six rebounds. Brooklyn's Priscilla Ramirez (Brooklyn, NY) recorded a team high 23 points and ten rebounds, shooting 8-21 from the field, and 6-7 from the free throw line. Eja Wong (New York, NY) finished the game with 11 points and eight boards. The Bridges shot 17-61 (28%) in the game.

The Roadrunners fell behind 8-3 at the start of the game before a 6-0 run sparked by Hoffman gave the Roadrunners a 9-8 edge with 11:37 to play. Brooklyn's Ramirez hit a jumper to go up, 10-9, which would be the last time the Bridges had control of the half. Ramapo spent the next 11 minutes slowly spreading the gap, leading by as many as 16, which came at the buzzer, when a lay-up from Cannizzaro gave the Roadrunners a 28-12 lead. Cannizzaro and Gripenburg each recorded a team high nine points in the half while the team hit 9-25 from the field (36%). Brooklyn was held to only six first half baskets going 6-24 (25%). Ramirez led the Bridges with ten points.

Gripenburg helped get the Roadrunners to their biggest lead of the game, 37-18 (19) at 16:09 with a jumper, before Brooklyn slowly chipped away on Ramapo's lead to come within three, when Wong capitalized on an and-one play, 45-42, with 5:38 to play. The Bridges outscored Ramapo, 22-6, to get themselves back into the game, but in the final minutes, Ramapo's Cannizzaro and Gripenburg joined forces to sink free throws earning the nine point win. The Roadrunners and the Bridges shot 29% in the second half of play. Ramapo's Cannizzaro sunk 11 points and Brooklyn's Ramirez netted 13, leading their teams in the final 20 minutes.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, November 25th when they travel to the College of Staten Island, tip-off at 5:00 PM.

Consolation Match-Up: Medgar Evers 57 – Newbury 42
In the consolation match-up of the tip-off tournament, the Nighthawks of Newbury College fell to the Cougars of Medgar Evers, 57-42. With the loss, Newbury remains defeated on the year falling to 0-3, while Medgar Evers earns their first win of the season to improve to 1-1. Shauntelle Nelson (Queens, NY) led the Cougars with 21 points shooting 9-13 from the field. Tabrese Harris (Brooklyn, NY) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Dabrene Sebastian (Brooklyn, NY) pulled down 13 boards of her own. The Cougars hit 15-32 (47%) in the second half of play, while sinking only 6-23 (26%) in the first half, falling behind 27-14 heading into the intermission. Newbury was held to only four baskets in the second half, 4-37 (11%), and hit 11-31 (36%) in the first half, for a game total, 15-68 (22%). Medgar finished the game shooting 21-55 (38%). Katelyn Mark (Quincy, MA) led Newbury with 15 points and five rebounds while adding two assists. Morganna Machado (Attleboro, MA) contributed 13 points in the game.
