JOHNSON NETS FIVE IN 10-5 VICTORY OVER RAMAPO

Mahwah, NJ: Junior Clare Johnson (Morristown, NJ) of Centenary College posted five goals in a non-conference women's lacrosse match-up with the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. Centenary improves to 6-8 overall with the 10-5 victory over the Roadrunners while Ramapo finishes the 2007 season at 3-6.

Johnson put the Cyclones on the scoreboard just over two minutes into the game when she hit the back of the net after connecting with Nicole Becker (Randolph, NJ). Johnson followed with a second goal at 2:54 to give the Cyclones a 2-0 edge.

Ramapo's Evey Rutledge (Plainsboro, NJ) connected with Cassandra Hartline (Kinnelon, NJ) at 8:50 to close the gap, 2-1 before Megan Mars (Jackson, NJ) and Kiti Ovaskainen (Finland) posted back-to-back unassisted goals for Centenary to go up three goals over Ramapo. Johnson closed out the half with two more to give the Cyclones a 7-1 lead at the half.

In the final 30 minutes of play, Mars and Ovaskainen each posted a second goal before Rutledge struck once again posting her 17th goal of the year to pull Ramapo within seven. Sophomore Allison Garaffa (Howell, NJ) ripped two shots back-to-back past the Centenary goal minder to close the gap, 9-4. Johnson finished the day with her final goal coming with 12 minutes left to play and Ramapo's Tara Gray (Howell, NJ) put one more in for the Roadrunners with 6:43 to play falling short, 10-5, to wrap up the first varsity year of women's lacrosse at Ramapo.

Centenary ripped 23 shots and Laura Davis (Vernon, NJ) blocked ten Ramapo shots earning the victory. Ramapo's Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) finished the day stopping eight shots in the full 60 minutes of play.
