April 16, 2007 - Led by sophomore Abbe Grimes (Hamden, Conn.) the Valiants cruised to a 12-4 victory over visiting Ramapo College on a cold, slippery night at GoValiants.com Field.
Eight Valiants were able to put the ball in the back of the net contributing to the non-conference victory and bringing the team back to the .500 mark for the season.
The Valiants got on the board quickly with an unassisted shot from junior Cory Alcorn (Orangeville, Ont.) just over two minutes into the contest.Alcorn followed that up with her second goal of the night just three minutes later to put Manhattanville ahead by two early on. Alcorn would finish the game with two goals and two assists bringing her season total to 26 points.
Manhattanville kept the heat on with freshman Kirsten Spelman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), sophomore Katie Bertel (Colorado Springs, Col.) and junior Kelly McMurray (Brewster, N.Y.) all finding the back of the net before the break. The Valiants enjoyed a 5-3 lead heading into the break.
Coming out of the locker room, Grimes turned on the heat in the second half netting three of her game-high, four points in the second stanza.
Three more Valiants would but points on the board before time expired and the Valiants took the 12-4 victory.
The Roadrunners were led by
Tara Gray who finished with two goals on the night.
Manhattanville outshot the Red Hawks 26-11 and also held the advantage on ground balls 21-16.
Freshman keeper Mary Albano (Trumbull, Conn.) made three saves for the Valiants while Roadrunners keeper
Megan Tierney stopped seven Manhattanville shots.
Manhattanville now stands at 5-5 overall while Ramapo is 2-2 overall.
Manhattanville will hit the road on Wednesday, April 18th when they face off against Eastern Connecticut State at 4:00p.m.
