Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners posted a 79-44 loss to the Red Hawks of Montclair State tonight at the Bradley Center in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. Ramapo falls to 6-18 overall, 1-11 in the NJAC while Montclair improves to 14-9 overall, 9-3 in the conference.
The Roadrunners kept the game within reach until 11:57 when Amy Bonk (Edison, NJ) hit two free throws sparking a 14-0 Montclair State run to take a 20 point, 33-13 edge. Ramapo outscored MSU, 9-6 in the half's final six and a half minutes to come within 17, 39-22, heading into the intermission. Ramapo shot 7-27, 26% behind MSU's 18-32, 56%. Stephanie Machin (New Providence, NJ) led Montclair in all categories netting ten points, pulling down six boards, and dishing out four assists. Ferin Catlett (Lawnside, NJ) chipped in seven first half points and Marianne McGovern (Fair Lawn, NJ) shot a perfect 3-3 for six points of her own. Ramapo's
Stephanie Cannizzaro (Pequannock Township, NJ) led the team with eight points while senior guard
Kelly Bartz (Madison, NJ) recorded five of her own.
It took Ramapo over six minutes to sink their first basket of the second half allowing MSU to take a 54-22 lead.
Natasha Gross (Glen Rock, NJ) got Ramapo on the board hitting a three-pointer at 13:25. Montclair continued to spread the gap with their biggest lead, 35, coming with 4:15 left to play when Janelle Biamonte (Jersey City, NJ) hit a three pointer, 71-36. The two teams went point for point in the final minutes, 8-8, holding a Montclair State victory, 79-44, giving Ramapo their biggest loss of the year.
Machin finished the night with 13 points and ten boards while Catlett added 13 of her own. Jackie Berry (Tuckerton, NJ) grabbed a team high three steals in the win. Montclair went 35-69 in the game hitting 51% of their shots while Ramapo finished hitting 23% of their shots with 13 baskets on 57 attempts. Cannizzaro sunk 13 points for Ramapo and Camille Mammolite (Scotch Plains, NJ) chipped in eight of her own.
Ramapo plays their final game of the 2006-2007 season on Saturday, February 17th when they host New Jersey City University at 1:00 PM. Montclair takes on Rutgers Newark at 5:30 PM in Newark.
