Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College basketball team dropped a conference game to Rowan University today at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners fall to 4-12 overall and 0-6 in the conference, while the Profs raise their record to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Ramapo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on the strength of a
Kelly Bartz (Madison, NJ) jumper and
Malika Gilliam (Roselle, NJ) free throw. Rowan regrouped, and put together an 11-0 run to take an eight point lead, 11-3. Katie Shaw (Wallington, NJ) led the way for the Profs with five of the eleven tallies. The game see-sawed again, as
Erica Maclin (Teaneck, NJ) drained a three pointer with 7:44 to go in the first half, to tie the score at 11. Rowan surged ahead again opening up a seven point lead 20-13, with just under five minutes to play in the half. The teams played about even until the halftime buzzer, with the Roadrunners shaving one point off the deficit, 27-21.
Shaw led the Profs with seven points, while Lauren Byrne (Paulsboro, NJ) contributed five rebounds.
Keona Palmer (Port Reading, NJ) led the Roadrunners at halftime with six points and seven rebounds.
Rowan came out firing to start the second half, opening up the lead to 17, 40-23 with 14:29 to play. The Prof lead ballooned to 20, 49-29, following a three pointer by Danielle Rohe (Dumont, NJ), before the Roadrunners started chipping away. Ramapo scored the next eight points to get back into the game 49-38, with just over seven minutes to go in the game. Susan Massara (Hammonton, NJ) buried a three pointer for the Profs to thwart the Roadrunners rally, extending the lead back to 14, 52-38. The closest the Roadrunners would get would be ten points, 52-42 thanks to Bartz's four straight points. Brynn DeGroff (Wildwood Crest, NJ) effectively ended the Roadrunners comeback attempt as she made a pair of three pointers and a layup to push the lead back to 16, 60-44 with three minutes to play. The final score was 62-49.
For the game, Rowan was led by DeGroff's 16 points, including 4-5 from three point range, and Byrne's 13 rebounds. The Profs shot 64% from beyond the three point arc. Palmer led the way for Ramapo with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Roadrunners return to action Wednesday January 24th as they travel to Jersey City to take on the Gothic Knights in an NJAC conference match up.
