LADY ROADRUNNERS DEFENSE STIFLING IN 66-40 VICTORY

MAHWAH, NJ: The Ramapo College Lady Roadrunners took on the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden today, looking to shake off a tough overtime loss to Kean University on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Raptors were looking to build on their first conference win of the season, which also came on said Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners got on the board early and often, scoring the first twelve points of the game, four coming on Allison Beller (Morris Plains, NJ) lay-ups. Rutgers Camden finally got on the board at the 16 minute mark, thanks to a Krystal Jankowski (Somerdale, NJ) jumper from the right elbow. Ramapo extended their lead to 13, 21-8, thanks to a Kelly Bartz (Madison, NJ) three pointer, with just under eleven minutes to go in the opening period. Rutgers Camden slowly whittled the lead down to four, 29-25, with a 17-8 run to end the half. The run was highlighted by Megan Rulon's (Sewell, NJ) four points. Rulon also posted 5 first half blocks. Jankowski led the way for Rutgers Camden in the first period with eight points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. The Roadrunners received 10 points and seven rebounds from Beller in the first half, while Natasha Gross (Glen Rock, NJ) ripped away four steals.

The Roadrunners started pulling away midway through the second half, tightening up on the defensive end of the court. With the score 39-32, and eleven minutes to play, Ramapo went on a 27-8 run to close out the game. The run was highlighted by a pair of Erica Maclin (Teaneck, NJ) three pointers. The lone bright spot for The Scarlet Raptors came with four minutes to play, when Rulon moved into fifth place on the university's all time scoring list, with 1,155 points, with a lay-up. She finished with nine points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks on the day. Jankowski posted ten points in a losing effort. Maclin and Beller each had 12 points for Ramapo, while Keona Palmer (Port Reading, NJ) added ten of her own. Gross finished with nine steals.

Ramapo improves to 7-11 overall, 3-9 in NJAC play, while Rutgers Camden falls to 5-14, 1-11 in the conference.

The Roadrunners will play host to CSI on Monday, January 29, 2006 at 7:00 at The Bradley Center.
